Barbara S. Aviles, 83, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at her residence. She was born on March 9, 1942, to Clarence and Claudine (McKenzie) Fannin in Oxs, Kentucky.
Barbara was a graduate of Van Lear High School in Van Lear, Kentucky. She married Tomas R. Aviles on July 5, 1961, in Paintsville, Kentucky. Barbara was the Matriarch in the truest sense—whose quiet strength, unshakable faith, and fierce devotion to her children and grandchildren shaped generations. She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren's activities.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Tomas Aviles of Wabash, Indiana; one son, Vincent (Tanya) Aviles of Noblesville, Indiana; two daughters, Angela (Keith) Leffers of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Lisa (Scott) Haupert of Wabash, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Victoria Leffers, Joseph Aviles, Jacob Leffers, Alexander Haupert, Noah Aviles, Isabella Leffers, Gabriel Haupert, Andrew Aviles, Vivian Haupert, Hudson Haupert; one brother, Charles (Dorothy) Fannin of Staffordsville, Kentucky; three sisters, Soreana Bowman and Bonnie (Henry) McCoart, both of Wabash and Patsy Bolden, of Nashville, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Anthony Aviles, and two sisters, Carol Hall and Alice Hashbarger.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at McDonald Funeral Home, Wabash Chapel, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992. Burial will follow at Falls Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.
Visitation for friends and family will be two hours prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the funeral home.
