Joseph P. Martin

 

Joseph P. Martin, 72, of Wabash, passed away at 8:17 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born May 24, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois to Pauline (Good) Pavlick.

 He is survived by his uncles; Burl Good of Wabash, Indiana, Phil Good of Murphysboro Tennessee; and George Good of Amboy, Indiana. He is proceeded in death by his mother.

 Per Joe’s wishes there will be no services. Burial will take place at Centergrove Cemetery in Lincolnville, Indiana.

Janice Shafer


Janice Kay Shafer, 76, a lifetime resident of Sweetser, Indiana passed away at 2:10 a.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at her residence. She was born on June 20, 1945, to Virgil and Ethel (Davis) Shafer in Sweetser, Indiana.

Janice is survived by two brothers, James (Dessie) Shafer of Swayzee, Indiana, and Eddie (Casey) Shafer of Sweetser, Indiana. nine nieces and nephews, Connie Whybrew, Michael Shafer, Jennifer Barley, Christy Shafer, Greg Shafer, Jeff Shafer, John Shafer, Jeff Bowland, and Amy Miller.  She is proceeded in death by her parents.

Graveside Services will be 11 a.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Sweetser, Indiana, with Rev. Everett Shattuck officiating.

Barbara Highfill


 Barabra G. Highfill, 97, of Fort Wayne formerly of LaFontaine, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Heritage Point of Fort Wayne. She was born on July 27, 1924, to Walter and Grace (Howard) Stands in Marion, Indiana.

Barbara was a graduate of LaFontaine High School and graduated from Indiana University as a registered nurse.  She married Robert Highfill. He passed away on February 15, 1997. She was a registered nurse at the Wabash Clinic.

Barbara is survived by daughter, Mrs. Susan Rupert of Fort Wayne, Indiana. 2 grandchildren, David Rupert of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Carolyn Rupert of Carrollton, Texas. and 3 great-grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at McDonald Funeral Homes, 104 South Main Street, LaFontaine Chapel, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940, with Pastor Susan Shambaugh officiating. Burial will follow at LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery in LaFontaine, Indiana.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service starting at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Donna Marie Stewart


 Donna Marie Stewart, 49, a lifetime resident of Wabash, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Wabash Parkview Hospital. She was born on July 26, 1972, to Foster Jr. and Barbara (Edwards) Gatchel.

Donna was a 1991 graduate of Wabash High School. She married David Stewart on April 2, 2017. She was a homemaker. Donna loved doing crafts and watching movies but most of all spending time with her family, husband, and grandchildren. She also loved SL with her mother and sisters and loved being property of the Spaniard and hitting the road.

Donna is survived by her husband, David Stewart of Wabash, Indiana. 4 daughters, Clarissa (Victor) Watts of Wabash, Indiana, Ashley (Jairo) Esparza of Logansport, Indiana, Tara Wold of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Bridget Wold of Kokomo, Indiana. her parents, Foster and Barbara Gatchel Jr. of Wabash, Indiana. 2 brothers, Vince (Theresa) Gatchel of Lagro, Indiana, and Foster W. (Abby) Gatchel of Wabash, Indiana. 4 sisters, Lisha Gatchel (Bill McKinnley), Beverly (Mark) Dillon, Kimberly Gatchel, and Barbara (Joakim) Abrahamsson, all of Wabash, Indiana. 3 grandsons, Ehrann Watts, Benjamin Watts, and Erik Watts. and 1 granddaughter, Gianina Esparza.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at McDonald Funeral Homes, 231 Falls Ave., Wabash, Indiana 46992. Burial will follow at Memorial Lawns Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.

Visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Saturday January 29, 2022, at the funeral home.

Larry Weitzel

 

Larry G. Weitzel, 82, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 9:10 a.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022 at his residence. He was born to Hugh and Lona (Zobroski) Weitzel on July 24, 1939 in North Manchester, Indiana.

Larry was a 1959 graduate of Laketon High School as the valedictorian and attended Manchester College. Larry married Diana Butcher on May 22, 1992; she survives. He worked at Ford Meter Box Machine Shop for 25 years in Wabash, Indiana, and was a self-employed carpet layer. He owned Wabash Interiors. He was a former member of the Wabash Moose Lodge #1195.

Larry is survived by his wife Diana, he is also survived by 4 sons, Alan Weitzel (Monica) of Akron, Indiana, Timothy Weitzel of Toledo, Ohio, Eric Weitzel of Silver Lake, Indiana, and Adam Weitzel of Georgia; 2 daughters, Diane Weitzel of Peru, Indiana, and Nicole Schaffer of Wabash, Indiana; 2 stepdaughters, Andrea Martin of Wabash, Indiana, and Ashley Martin of Peru, Indiana; 1 sister Joyce Ebbinghouse of Bluffton, Indiana; and 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by 1 son Patrick Weitzel, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2022, at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Roxane Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in North Manchester, Indiana.

Visitation for family and friends will be 2 hours prior to the funeral service from 9-11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are directed to National Blind Society or the Alzheimer's Association in care of McDonald Funeral Home.

Frank Johnson

 

Frank L. Johnson Sr, 83, of Wabash, died at 9:55 p.m., on Thursday January 13th, 2022, at his home. He was born on January 31st, 1938 in Tyner, IN to Henry L Johnson and Annetta May Enders Johnson.


Frank was a 1956 graduate of Somerset High School. He enjoyed playing basketball and softball in high school. He worked as a farmer and truck driver for all his life. Frank loved hunting, fishing, and enjoyed the outdoors. He also enjoyed walking through the woods and loved spending time with his grandchildren.   

He is survived by his sons Frank L. (Denise) Johnson Jr, Schererville IN; Mark L. Johnson, Wabash, IN; daughter Mrs. (Nick) Mary Cardaras, Wheatfield, IN; son in law Jim Long, Texas; two brothers Garrah (Patricia) Johnson, Bill (Marcia) Johnson, both of Wabash; three sisters, Margaret Dobbs, Destin, Florida; Harriet Sloop. Elkhart, IN, and June Johnson of Wabash; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents, one daughter, Theresa, two brothers, and three sisters.

 

Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday January 18th, 2022 at McDonald Funeral Homes, 231 Falls Ave. Wabash, Indiana 46992

Richard "Rick" Hahn

 

Richard “Rick” Hahn, 64, of Wabash, died at 4pm on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at his home surrounded by family. He was born October 29, 1957 in Wabash, IN to Kenneth and Jane (Hettmansperger) Hahn.


Rick was a 1975 graduate of Wabash High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2010. Rick worked as a drug and alcohol education and life skills teacher for several years at Paddock View Residential Center in Marion, IN and later as an addictions counselor in Port Angeles, WA. After returning to Wabash, he most recently worked as a medication coordinator for Genoa Healthcare.

He was a past member of the Community Foundation of Wabash County Grants committee. Rick was a long time avid supporter and volunteer with the Special Olympics of Wabash County.

He is survived by his son Adam (Rodney Farrell), Griffith, IN; daughters Gretchen (Ryan) Middleton, Ft. Wayne, and Miranda Hahn, Wabash; three grandchildren, Lilly Hahn, Anderson Hahn, and Palmer Middleton, all of Ft Wayne; a brother Dave (Audrey) Hahn, Wabash, and three sisters, Nancy Hahn, Wabash, Sue (Keith) Duhamell, Wabash, and Carol (Ray) Fitzgerald, Kokomo. He was proceeded in death by his parents, and a sister, Linda.

Per Rick’s wishes there will be no services.

Shiloh Bolen


 Shiloh L. Bolen, infant daughter of Brady M. and Katie L. (Martin) Bolen was called home to be with Jesus at 10:23 am, Saturday, January 1, 2022. She was loved by many and spent her little life surrounded by her mom and dad and the amazing Baylor NICU medical teams in Dallas, TX. She was a fighter and her feistiness will continue to bring memories of laughter and joy to those who knew her.

She is survived by her parents, Brady and Katie Bolen, paternal grandparents, Randal (Christine) Bolen, of Lagro, Indiana, maternal grandparents, Clifton (Jana) of Eaton, Ohio, great grandparents, Pam Miller, of Wabash, Indiana and Frank Bowman of Eaton, Ohio, along with the most loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Shiloh is proceeded in death by three unborn siblings, one being her twin.
Private graveside services will be at Falls Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana with Pastor Kirk Johnson officiating.
