Paul Joseph Samuel

 

Paul Joseph Samuel, 80, of Galveston, Indiana passed away at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, Indiana. He was born on November 21, 1943, to Frank and Mary (Massarick) Samuel in Saginaw, Michigan.

Paul served in the United States Air Force. He worked as a truck driver for Brown's Trucking in Wabash and First Option Trucking in Marion before retiring. Paul was a member of Saint Bernard's Catholic Church in Wabash. He was also a member of the VFW Post 286. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. 

Paul is survived by one son, Shaun (Dereka) Samuel of Galveston, Indiana; one daughter, Tracy (John) Renn of Wabash, Indiana; 13 grandchildren, Tyler Samuel, Jocelynn Samuel, Drake Samuel, Jordan Renn, Madisen French, Braydon French, Joseph Renn, John Renn II, Hayley French, Mykenzie Renn, Jathan French, Allayna Renn, Joseph Renn; 5 great-grandchildren, Greyson Samuel, Jenson Samuel, Hutton Samuel, Langston Miracle, Brookston Miracle. He is preceded in death by his parents, one great-granddaughter, Blakelynn Marie Rose Samuel, four brothers, and four sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at McDonald Funeral Home, Wabash Chapel, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Father Jay Horning officiating. Burial will follow at Centergrove Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.

Visitation for family and friends will be two hours prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the funeral home.

Myra L. Parker

 

Myra L. Parker, 66, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 5:16 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at her residence. She was born on April 21, 1957, to Jerry Haynes and Christine (Bradley) Siers in Peru, Indiana.

Myra was a 1976 graduate of Wabash High School. She married Robert L. Parker on May 9, 1996. Myra was an avid shopper and loved her family. Most of all she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Myra is survived by her husband, Robert Parker of Wabash, Indiana; one daughter, Jami (Brent) Losher of Wabash, Indiana; three grandchildren, Jason Webb, Melissa Webb, Erin Webb (Dalton Loveless); three great-grandchildren, Paisleigh Bechtol, Breslynn Bechtol, Kai Webb; one brother, Terry (Helen) Haynes of Wabash, Indiana; four sisters, Kay (Pat) Breedlove of Lexington, North Carolina, Donna (Randy) Reed of Huntington, Indiana, Evelyn (James) Rose of Wabash, Indiana, Deanna (Chuck) King of Marion, Indiana. She is preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Vanessa Pierson, and one sister, Paula Haynes. 

Private services will be held amongst family and friends.

Linda Lou Howard

 

Linda Lou Howard, 76, of Marion, Indiana passed away on December 18, 2023. She departed peacefully, surrounded by family and leaving a void that can never be filled. She was born on August 27, 1947, to the late Jim and Wanda Kemmer of rural Marion.

Linda lived a life defined by love, kindness, and resilience. She was the heart and soul of her family and a beacon of warmth to those who knew her. Many knew Linda from her long career with Gorman Orthodontics, her frequent appearances playing tennis in Matter Park, or her meticulously landscaped home which she took pride in. Whether tending her garden and lawn, managing the family’s business, or visiting friends and loved ones, Linda lived an active life and always strived to keep busy. Above all else, Linda loved her family and any opportunity to gather and enjoy their company.

Linda is survived by her husband of 39 years, David Howard; daughter, Angela (Erik) Dunham; sisters, Kathy (Jim) Lawson and Patricia (Darrell) Smith; and grandsons, Wade (Mike) Javorsky and Conner Dunham. 

A private graveside service will be held at LaFontaine I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Roger Isaac

 

Roger Isaac, 72, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 2:25 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on September 9, 1951, to Harold and Margie (Dials) Isaac in Martin, Kentucky.

Roger was a 1971 graduate of Wabash High School. He married Nancy Moeller on October 1, 2005. He worked at Container Corperation in Wabash for 34 years before retiring. He enjoyed fishing, sprint cars, and playing softball at the Wabash City Park.

Roger is survived by his wife, Nancy Isaac of Wabash, Indiana; one son, Tony Lee Isaac of Indianapolis, Indiana; one daughter, Sandra (William) Booth of Lagro, Indiana; two stepsons, Jerry (Emily) Hummer of Celina, Ohio, Matt (Laine) Hummer of Fishers, Indiana; one stepdaughter Charleen (Denny) Brunswick of Coldwater, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie (Linda) Isaac of Wagoner, North Carolina, Lonnie Isaac (Susan Ridenour) of Peru, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his parents. 

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at McDonald Funeral Home, Wabash Chapel, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Pastor Ralph Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.

H. David Kirkover


 H. David Kirkover, 53, a lifetime resident of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 1:38 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on August 1, 1970, to Howard and Betty (Bohnert) Kirkover in Wabash, Indiana.

Dave was a 1989 graduate of Wabash High School. He worked at Medtronic in Warsaw, Indiana. Dave loved being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was a member of Abate of Indiana. Dave was a loyal man and loved his family and his son. 

Dave is survived by his son, Evan Kirkover of Wabash, Indiana; his mother, Betty Kirkover of Wabash, Indiana; his companion, Amy Pennington of Urbana, Indiana, and her children, Cortney (Nate) Hembree of Denver, Indiana, Zac Pennington of Urbana, Indiana; three sisters, Cheryl (Scott) Evenson of Wabash, Indiana, Donna (Richard) Palmer of Wabash, Indiana, Barbara Hall of Winchester, Kentucky; two nephews, Kevin (Bridgette) Evenson of Wabash, Indiana, Cody (Felicia) Palmer of Wabash, Indiana; two nieces, Heather (Eric) Brown of Mount Etna, Indiana, McKenzie Hall of Winchester, Kentucky. He is preceded in death by his father, Howard Kirkover.

Chong "Ginny" Lake

 

Chong "Ginny" Lake, 84, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 6:20 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Autum Ridge Rehabilitation Centre in Wabash. She was born on July 30, 1939, in South Korea, then moved to the United States in 1963.

Ginny married Steven Lake in 1967. He passed away on June 12, 2013. She worked at Wabash Magnetics and Hiz Inc. in Wabash before retiring. She was a member of Wabash Friends Church in Wabash. Ginny enjoyed playing Bingo. 

Ginny is survived by two special friends, Penny Penix of Wabash, Indiana, Joyce Shepherd of North Manchester, Indiana. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. 

Private Graveside Services will be held at Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana at a later date.

Teresa Darlene Fraustein

 

Teresa Darlene Fraustein, 61, of LaFontaine, Indiana passed away at 7:15 p.m. on December 14, 2023, at Marion General Hospital. She was born on April 4, 1962, to Thomas Henderson and Joan (Stevens) Carrender in Marion, Indiana. 

Teresa was a 1980 graduate of Southwood High School. She married Thomas Fraustein on April 12, 1980. She was a homemaker and also worked at the LaFontaine Elementary School. Teresa enjoyed gardening, flowers, and working on computers. Teresa loved her family and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. 

Teresa is survived by her husband, Thomas Fraustein of LaFontaine, Indiana; two daughters, Stacey (Beau) Strack of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Nicole Fraustein (Adam Whiteman) of LaFontaine, Indiana; two grandchildren, Allyce Strack and Maximilian Strack; two brothers, Jeff (Kay) Henderson of Logansport, Indiana, Raymond Henderson of Warren, Indiana; two sisters, Lisa (Larry) Kirksey of Butler, Georgia, Melissa Henderson (Codie Wright) of Marion, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Wendell D. Leland

 

Wendell D. Leland, 93, a lifetime resident of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 10:42 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Wellbrooke of Wabash. He was born on July 14, 1930, to D.L. and Bertha (Martin) Leland in Wabash, Indiana.

Wendell was a 1948 graduate of Wabash High School. He served in the United States National Guard. Wendell married Janis McDowell in 1953. She passed away in 1996. He then married Mary Metzger in 2004. She passed away in 2020. Wendell worked as a sales engineer at Wabash Metal Products in Wabash, before retiring. He was a member of Bachelor Creek Church of Christ in Wabash. He was also a member of Elks Lodge #471 and American Legion Post 15. Wendell enjoyed being outdoors, golfing, fishing, and having a good stogie. He also had a talent for singing. 

Wendell is survived by three sons, Sam (Katie) Leland, Stan (Kathy) Leland, Don (Tyann) Leland, all of Wabash, Indiana; one daughter, Marianne (Mark) Milam of Roann, Indiana; 9 grandchildren, Leah (Nathan) Thurman, Hannah (Andrew) Neuenschwander, Tyler (Adriane) Leland, Andrea (Joe) Pretorius, Jackson (Brittney) Leland, Joseph Leland, Erika (Carson) White, Evan (Mackenzie) Milam, Ellie Milam; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Debbie Leland of Fishers, Indiana, Anne Leland of Taiwan, Japan; and long-time loving caregiver, Fern Dillon. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, and two sisters.

Maxine C. Shafer

 

Maxine C. Shafer, 88, of Wabash, Indiana, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away at 4:50 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Wellbrooke of Wabash. She was born on February 25, 1935, to Phillip and Charolette (Gorney) Tasch in Culver, Indiana.

Maxine was a homemaker. She married John W. Shafer in October of 1954. He passed away in April of 2007. Maxine enjoyed gardening, puzzles, and loved spending time at her lake cottage in Culver, Indiana. Most of all she loved her children and her grandchildren.

Maxine is survived by two sons, Phillip Shafer of Indianapolis, Indiana, Christopher Shafer of Genoa, Ohio; two daughters, Kathleen (Jerry) Hults of Wabash, Indiana, Jill (Bill) Cox of Indianapolis, Indiana; six grandchildren, Mathew Bruhn (Jennifer Blok) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Alison (Jon) McDonald of Wabash, Indiana, Adam (Heather) Hengen, Simone Evans, Abby Hengen, Christian Shafer, all of Indianapolis, Indiana; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Bates, Phoenix Bates, Cale Lundquist, Lilly Shafer; one sister Marylin Chamberlain of Greenville, North Carolina. Alecia M. Courtney

 

Alecia M. Courtney, 68, of Claypool, Indiana passed away at 11:24 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born on June 14, 1955, to Clifford Walker and Joan (Watson) Riggers in Wabash, Indiana.

Alecia married Danny Schlemmer Sr. on April 16, 1976. He passed away on February 14, 2011. She then married Robert Courtney Sr. on September 1, 2012. He passed away on May 30, 2023. Alecia was a homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of her chickens, tending to her garden, and canning foods. She also had a passion for sewing. Most of all she loved her children and grandchildren.

Alecia is survived by three sons, Dan (Andrea) Schlemmer of Wabash, Indiana, Chad Schlemmer of Claypool, Indiana, Jason (Nitosha) Schlemmer of Wabash, Indiana; one daughter, Amber (Mike) Bean of Peru, Indiana; 16 grandchildren, Derek Schlemmer, Levi Schlemmer, Ashley Schlemmer, Hanna Schlemmer, Chad Schlemmer, Gabriel Schlemmer, Easton Gray, Westley Gray, Justin Ragan, Alecia Ragan, Zach Ragan, Delanie Schlemmer, Mike Schlemmer, Preston Schlemmer, Lucas Courtney, Abigaile Courtney; 7 great-grandchildren, two more on the way; one sister, Brenda Harman of Huntington, Indiana. Velma L. Porter, 86, of LaFontaine, Indiana passed away at 11:38 a.m. on November 28, 2023, at her residence. She was born on March 2, 1937, to Cecil and Dorothy (Shad) Wright in Wabash, Indiana. 

Velma was a 1955 graduate of Lagro High School. She first married James Brubaker. He passed away in 1967. She then married Charles K. Porter on June 16, 1973. Velma was a homemaker. She attended the Church of Christ at Treaty. She loved the outdoors, bird watching, and tending to her garden and her kitty. 

Velma is survived by her husband, Charles Porter of LaFontaine, Indiana; two daughters, Diana (Randy) Carver of LaFontaine, Indiana, Debra (Michael) Arnold of Wolcottville, Indiana; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Carver, Andrew Carver, Austin Arnold, Zachary Arnold; six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Louise Thompson

 

Louise Thompson, 84, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 10:22 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Wabash Parkview Hospital. She was born on January 6, 1939, to Raymond and Mary Marie (Morrison) Mullins in Bath County, Kentucky.

Louise attended Wabash High School. She married Vernon Thompson on July 13, 1957. She worked at Clark's Finer Foods in Wabash until retiring. Louise was a woman whose unconditional love touched the lives of everyone she met. Her generosity knew no end. The amount of prayers and grace she lavished impacted, and at times sustained, her family. Her gift of hospitality and her ability to prepare feast after feast for her family and friends was one of her most beloved characteristics. But most of all, her love for Jesus and her longing for others to know His love and forgiveness was the most beautiful thing about her. She loved her grandkids/great grandkids, College Corner Brethren Church, her Daily Bread devotional, lighthouses, stocking her fridge with enough cookies to feed an army, and spoiling her whole family at Christmas. Her presence this side of heaven will be so missed, but we know she’s perfectly loved and at peace in the presence of God.

Louise is survived by her husband, Vernon Thompson of Wabash, Indiana; four children, Teresa (Dan) Snyder of LaFontaine, Indiana, Gregory (Traci) Thompson of Wabash, Indiana, Mark Thompson (Shannon Hatfield) of Van Buren, Julia (Dewayne) Lengel of Wabash, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Evan (Whitney) Snyder, Dustin (Alexis) Snyder, Bailey Thompson, Kennedy Brackett, Alex Thompson, Meg Thompson, Eliza Thompson, Lydia (Evan) Smith, Hannah Lengel; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Mike (Bonnie) Mullins of North Manchester, Indiana; one sister, Wanda Kirby of Columbia City, Indiana. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one sister.

Larry Lee Black

 

Larry Lee Black, 57, a lifetime resident of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 5:22 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2023, at Majestic Care of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on January 13, 1966, to Janet (Woodward) Black in Wabash, Indiana.

Larry left a huge hole in the heart of his family and friends who were always entertained by his "long winded" stories and his sense of humor.  Larry never met a stranger and was never short on words, as all who knew him knew. His beautiful eyes and big friendly smile lit up every room he ever entered. He worked for many years at Wabash Cannonball Lanes in maintenance. 

Larry is survived by his life partner of 37 years, Alison Spenser of Wabash, Indiana; one son, Steven Bernon Black of Wabash, Indiana; his mother, Janet (Woodward) Black of Wabash, Indiana; one sister, Angie (Craig) Peyton of Louisville, Kentucky; one brother, Scott (Luchita) Black of Las Vegas, Nevada; nieces and nephews, Phillip (Kristen), Kalie (Jono), Kyle, Patrick, Shayna; great nieces and nephews, Jackson, Audrey, and Hayes Alexander; one uncle, Phillip Woodward of Wabash, Indiana. Larry is at peace joining his grandparents, Bernon "Woody" Woodward and Alberta Woodward, who he deeply loved and has missed every day since their passing.

Christina L. Swafford

 

Christina L. Swafford, 67, a lifetime resident of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at her residence. She was born on October 30, 1956, to Max and Donna (Copeland) Owen in Wabash, Indiana.

Christina graduated from Wabash High School. She married Johnny Swafford on May 12, 1994. He passed away on June 17, 2015. Christina worked at Burger King in Wabash doing maintenance. She attended Friends Church in Wabash. Christina loved all animals, but especially her dog, Bella; but most of all she loved her family. 

Christina is survived by her mother, Donna Copeland of Wabash, Indiana; four sons, Christopher (Tina) Burnham, Jamie (Misty) Burnham, Todd Burnham, David (Mallory) Burnham, all of Wabash, Indiana; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Larry (Shelly) Owen of Peru, Indiana, Jeff Owen of Wabash, Indiana, Rollie Dickerhoff of Peru, Indiana. She is preceded in death by her father, her husband, and one brother. 

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at McDonald Funeral Home, Wabash Chapel, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Don Phillips officiating. Burial will take place at Friends Cemetery in Wabash.

Charles "Chuck" Lee Dwyer

 

Charles "Chuck" Lee Dwyer, 94, of Wabash, Indiana passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on April 21, 1929, to the late James Lee Dwyer and Isabel Marie (Midlan) Donavon in Franklin, Ohio, where his father was a professional baseball player on the Cincinnati Reds Farm Team. James wanting a better life for his family, he took college classes in the evening. He learned to be a chemist and perfected a paper-making process which brought the family to Wabash in 1934.

Charles shared a love of sports with his father and excelled in baseball, basketball, football, track, and gymnastics. Sadly, his father passed away at one of his senior year football games.

 Despite this great loss, Charles graduated from Wabash High School. and he forged ahead to Ball State University, where he excelled in gymnastics. A picture of him doing a "T" prominently hung on the gym wall for many years. Before he could finish his studies, Charles was drafted into the United States Army. He served honorably during World War II in Germany during the Cold War. 

Charles was very active in his community. He had a continual membership for over 50 years at the American Legion Post 15 and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 286 since 1958. Charles was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church in Wabash. Charles devoted much of his time, talents, and love for athletics to his community. He volunteered with Saint Bernard Catholic School, coaching football and basketball. He also served for many years as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Wabash High School and the Wabash Express (a semi-pro football team in Wabash). He was a founding member of the high school's Quarterback Club. In recognition for his many contributions to the school, Charles was named a Wabash Mr. Alumni in 1976. Charles was also instrumental in bringing girls softball to Wabash County in the 1970's and volunteered as a coach.

Charles valued being with his family above everything and was happiest when everyone was together. His idea of the best part of the year was living in an over-crowded cottage, filled with family at Lake Wawasee. Charles loved his grandchildren and felt great pride in all of their accomplishments. He enjoyed golf, skiing, and teaching his nieces, nephews, and sons how to swim. He was a man of integrity and honor who could be counted on to serve his country, his community, and his family. He will greatly be missed.

Charles is survived by his longtime companion, Rita Schroll; two sons, Scott (Mike) Dwyer of Fort Wayne, Indiana, David (Mindy) Dwyer of Greenwood, Indiana; three grandchildren, Dawson Dwyer, Davis Dwyer, Delaney Dwyer, all of Greenwood, Indiana; one nephew, Jeff (Jennifer) Speicher, three nieces, Pam Urschel, Bev Kohn, Nancy Zorger; one great nephew, Jeff Urschel. He was proceeded in death by his parents; one sister, E. Janet Speicher. 

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at McDonald Funeral Home, Wabash Chapel, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Pastor Brad Wright officiating. Burial will take place at Falls Cemetery in Wabash.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the funeral home.

Esther M. White

 

Esther M. White, 86, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 3:25 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023, at her residence. She was born on July 14, 1937, to Irvin R. Dale and Esther (Dennis) Campbell in Springfield, Ohio.

Esther lived in Springfield, Ohio until moving to Wabash, Indiana in 1978. She married William T. White on September 12, 1985. He passed away on April 21, 1996. Esther worked for Wagners in Wabash then worked for Martin Yale Industries before retiring. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Wabash. She enjoyed rummage sales, meeting new people, working in her yard, and also helping out at the Eagles Lodge in Wabash.  

Esther is survived by four daughters, Barbara Walters of Wabash, Indiana, Cathy Topia of New Carlile, Ohio, Mrs. Thomas (Rhonda) Bradford of Roann, Indiana, Teresa (Michael Hosler) Walters of Wabash, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Morgan, Stephan Walters, Tyler Walters, Heather Smithhisler, Teri Dexter, Amber Daugherty, Andrea (Jeremy) Morgan; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Daisley of Sheridan, Indiana, Grace Howard of Kentucky. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson, Tommy Bradford, and two brothers, Irvin Campbell Jr. and Earl Campbell. 

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at McDonald Funeral Home, Wabash Chapel, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Pastor Ben Church officiating. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Terry Lee Hiple


Terry Lee Hiple, 84, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 9:49 a.m. on November 7, 2023, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on June 12, 1939, to Donald and Betty (Hoke) Hiple in Huntington, Indiana. 

Terry was a 1957 graduate of Swayzee High School. He served in the National Guard from 1960 to 1966. He married Dixie Martin on May 28, 1961. She passed away October 26, 1990. He then married Regina (Harper) Brane on November 25, 1992. Terry was a man of many talents and wore many hats. Throughout his life he was a devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend. He was a mentor to many along with being a boss, business owner, and a skilled craftsman. Terry was a carpenter and owned Hiple Construction for 52 years before retiring in 2019 and turning his business to John Powell, a close family friend from LaFontaine but Terry continued working on smaller projects. He enjoyed anything that was a challenge to make. He had built a full-size stagecoach, an electric car, a cannon, and a Gatling gun. Terry was an artist and enjoyed painting. Terry was a member of LaFontaine Christian Church in LaFontaine. He was also a member of the Hanna Masonic Lodge #61, Order of the Eastern Star 301 LaFontaine Chapter, Scottish Rite, Shriners, and the American Legion Post #368 in Van Buren, Indiana. 

Terry is survived by his wife, Regina Hiple of Wabash, Indiana; his mother, Betty Hiple of Swayzee, Indiana; one daughter, Amy (Darrell) Owens of Troy, Alabama; one son, Todd (Lisa) Hiple of LaFontaine, Indiana; one stepdaughter, Deborah (Guy) Blanchard of Fishers, Indiana; one stepson, Darryl (Christine) Brane of Van Buren, Indiana; four grandchildren, Bryant (Sarah) Owens, Christyn Owens, Kimberly Yates, Kevin Hiple; four step grandchildren, Adam (Brittany) Blanchard, Kevin Blanchard, Trevor (Bre) Brane, Seth Brane; four great-grandchildren, Colton, Owen, Evelyn, Brayden; three step great-grandchildren, Izzy, Harper, Hudsen; one brother, Richard (Cindy) Hiple of Swayzee, Indiana; two sisters, Merrily (Joe) Rehwinkel of Delphi, Indiana, Melody (David) Hundley of Marion, Indiana; and John Powell of LaFontaine, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his father. 

  Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at LaFontaine I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Pastor Charlie Dye officiating.

Ronald D. Dunnaway


 Ronald "Ron" D. Dunnaway, 65, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 8:58 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023, at his residence. He was born on April 19, 1958, to Forrest Albert and Gracie (Walters) Dunaway in Paintsville, Kentucky.

Ronald was a graduate of Wabash High School.  He worked for Bulldog Battery for 25 years before retiring.  He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Wabash.  Ron mowed everyone's grass in the neighborhood, enjoyed fishing, working in his garage, and loved his cats. 

Ronald is survived by three brothers; James (Patricia) Dunnaway of Gibsonton, Florida, Roger Dunnaway of Flint, Michigan, Paul (Theresa) Dunnaway of Tampa, Florida; three sisters, Bonnie (Norm) Cooper of Syracuse, Indiana, Janice (Doug) Rivera of Tampa, Florida, Tracey Dunnaway of Peru, Indiana.  He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William Williamson, and one sister, Linda Spencer.

Ernest L. Martin Jr.

 

Ernest L. Martin Jr., 74, of Wabash, Indiana, formerly of Sacramento, California, passed away at 7:36 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023, at his residence. He was born on August 29, 1949, to Ernest Sr. and Charolette (Kelly) Martin in Blue Island, Illinois.

Ernie served in the United States Marines from 1966 to 1970, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Rifle Marksman Badge. He was a truck driver and also a supervisor at the Bannon Street Homeless Shelter. Ernest married Alice Self on October 24, 1986. She passed away on April 6, 2021. He was a member of Warehouse Ministries in Sacramento, California. 

Ernie is survived by two stepchildren, Christina (Isaac) Jay of Roseville, California, Brett McCulley of Sacramento, California; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jerrie Gee of Florida, Pam Cassano of Florida, Mary Canfield of Alaska; one brother, Jeff Martin of Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one son, Ernest Martin III. 

Per Ernest's wishes there will be no services.

Inurement will take place at Sacramento Valley Nation Cemetery in Dixon, California at a later date.

Jerry S. Shenefield

 

Jerry S. Shenefield, 91, of LaFontaine, Indiana passed away at 9:07 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at his residence. He was born on August 26, 1932, to Stuart and Wilma (Martin) Shenefield in LaFontaine, Indiana. 

Jerry was a 1951 graduate of LaFontaine High School. He married Rita Mae Ricks on April 13, 1952, they had five children. He then married Virginia Snodgrass on November 26, 1969, they had two children. She passed away on May 30, 2008. Jerry worked for Dana Corp. in Marion, Indiana for 50 years before retiring. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Wabash and a life member of Boundry Line Church of Christ in LaFontaine. He was also a member of the Van Buren American Legion Post 368, VFW of Marion, and the National Rifle Association. 

Jerry is survived by three sons, Jay (Cindy) Shenefield of LaFontaine, Indiana, Alan (Marianne) Shenefield of Marion, Indiana, Ed (Michelle) Shenefield of Marion, Indiana; four daughters, Debra (Terry) Powell of Marion, Indiana, Denise (Charles) Enyeart of Wabash, Indiana, Dawn (Keith) Dennison of Wabash, Indiana, Donna (Ben) Slocum of Niles, Michigan; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Shenefield of LaFontaine, Indiana; one sister, Ann Miltenberger of Marion, Indiana; and special friend, Cindy Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son in law, Terry Powell, and one grandson, Daniel Gaylourd.

Ralph E. Heiser

 

Ralph E. Heiser, 92, of LaFontaine, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on November 2, 1930, to Morris and Mae (Stair) Heiser in Gas City, Indiana.  

Ralph was a graduate of LaFontaine High School. He served in the United States Army as a Sargent during the Korean War. He married Rosemary Coty on October 9, 1955. He worked as a Union Carpenter. Ralph was a member of the LaFontaine Christian Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 15 in Wabash and a life member of the LaFontaine Masonic Lodge. Ralph enjoyed entertaining and having people over at the pool, boating, and playing cards.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Rosemary Heiser; two sons, Kerry Heiser of Wabash, Indiana, Tony Heiser of LaFontaine, Indiana; two daughters, Marsha (Charles) King of Wabash, Indiana, Tamera Mosier of North Manchester, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Leigh (Mark) Denniston. Emily King, Jennifer Southwick, Vincent (Stephanie) Brooks, Andrea (Ryan) Haynes, Kyle Heiser, Brad Mosier (Becky Vanpatten); seven great-grandchildren, Tyler (Megan) Denniston, Mason Brooks, Jada Brooks, Lily Haynes, Conner Taylor, Alexander Southwick, Taylor Brooks; one great great-granddaughter, Stevie Denniston; 2 sisters, Louise Sheetz, Patricia Althouse. 

He was preceded in death by both parents; one sister, Mary Ellen Smith; and one grandson, Randy Mosier.

Brian E. Moore

 

Brian E. Moore, 62, a lifetime resident of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 6:35 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2023, at his sister's residence. He was born on February 3, 1961, to Bert and Phyllis (Aikers) Moore in Wabash, Indiana.

Brian was a 1980 graduate of Wabash High School. He married Janet Hapner on August 5, 1989. She passed away on December 19, 2014. Brian worked for Par-Kan in Silver Lake, Indiana. He was an avid mushroom hunter and fisherman. Brian was a hard worker and would do anything for anyone.

Brian is survived by two daughters, Nicole (Trent) Parson of Denver, Indiana, Megan Payne of Akron, Ohio; two grandchildren, Braya Parson and Trey Payne; one brother, Chris Moore of Wabash, Indiana; one sister, Lorna (Mark) Worrick of Wabash, Indiana; and two best friends, brother-in-law, Mark Worrick of Wabash, Indiana and Ronnie Isaac of South Carolina. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister, Luann Hammonds, and one brother, Bill Moore. 

Visitation for family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at McDonald Funeral Home, Wabash Chapel, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992. Burial will take place privately in Topmost, Kentucky.

Deborah "Debbie" A. Chenoweth

 

Deborah "Debbie" A. Chenoweth, 74, of LaFontaine, Indiana passed away at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at her residence. She was born December 13, 1948, to Wayne and Della Bonita "Bonnie" (Hillard) Crist in Wabash, Indiana. 

Debbie is a 1967 graduate of Marion High School. She married Danny Chenoweth on July 1, 1967. She worked for a retail store called Hang Ups for 17 years and was a homemaker. Debbie was a member of the American Legion Psot 15 Wabash Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing Bingo and played golf regularly, but most of all she loved her family and her animals.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Dan Chenoweth of LaFontaine, Indiana; one son, Douglas (Jody) Chenoweth of LaFontaine, Indiana; two granddaughters, Bayli Chenoweth of Wabash, Indiana, Madison Chenoweth of Wabash, Indiana; one brother, Dan Crist of North Carolina. She is preceded in death by one sister, Diane Maloy. 

There will be a private family Celebration of Life at a later date.

Robert "Bob" E. Lee Jr.

 

Robert "Bob" E. Lee Jr., 87, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at his residence. He was born on January 18, 1936, to Robert E. Sr. and Irene (Donovan) Lee in Huntington, Indiana.

Bob was a 1954 graduate of Wabash High School. He married Betty Ann Hughes on January 5, 1973. Bob worked as a supervisor at B Walters and Magnetics, then worked as an operator at General Tire in Wabash; retiring November 18, 1997. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and was a man that could fix anything. Bob also owned a washer and dryer repair business. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Elks Lodge in Wabash.

Bob is survived by his wife, Betty Lee of Wabash, Indiana; one son, Christopher (Lynn) Lee of Sweetser, Indiana; three daughters, Tara (Robert) Spaulding of Florida, Kara Clark of Georgia, Tawny Hardy of Florida; eleven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Robert and Richard Lee, and one sister, Judith Ann Lee.

Graveside Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Falls Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana with Father Jay Horning officiating.

Barbara C. Florek

 

Barbara C. Florek, 90, of LaFontaine, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born on February 7, 1933, to Glen T. and Gladys P. (Vanness) Jones in Wabash, Indiana.  

Barbara was a 1951 graduate of Banquo High School. She married Rudolph Florek on May 15, 1954. He passed away on March 23, 2018. Barbara enjoyed reading, cooking, playing puzzles and solitaire, but most of all she loved her family. 

Barbara is survived by two sons, Max Florek and Dennis Florek (Teresa Bozell), both of LaFontaine, Indiana; two daughters, Theresa (Jerry) LaShure, of LaFontaine, Indiana and Pamela (Mark) Clindaniel, Scottsburg, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Alena Rogers, Brandon LaShure, Andrew Florek, Jocelynn Clindaniel, Marcus Clindaniel, Dylan Florek, Devon Clindaniel; and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, James Florek, one brother, Charles "Bud" Jones, and three sisters, Frieda Wages, Juanita Weaver, and Infant sister.   

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Wabash, Indiana with Father Jay Horning officiating.  Burial will follow at Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana. 

Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, October 16, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 South Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940 with Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association in care of McDonald Funeral Home.
