Janet L. Boyer

Janet L. Boyer, 100, of Wabash, passed away at 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at Miller's Merry Manor - West in Wabash.  Janet was born on February 20, 1919 in Wabash, Indiana to the late Homer and Vista (Brane) Kendall. 

Janet married Justice Boyer. He died in 1982.  She retired from the Wabash City Schools and was a member of the Retired Indiana Public Employees Association.

Janet is survived by sons, Gary (Marlene) Meyer, of Wabash, Kevin (Nancie) Meyer, of Carvallis, Oregon; daughter, Karen Enyeart, of Wabash; four grandchildren, Timothy Meyer, Thomas Meyer, Dawn Enyeart and Christina Middleton; brother, Nevin Kendall, of Huntington; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 25, 2019 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Pastor Brad Wright officiating.  Burial will follow immediately at Memorial Lawns Cemetery in Wabash.

Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral services at the funeral home, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Merle Kenneth Maples


Merle Kenneth Maples, age 80, passed away at his home in Wabash, Indiana, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. 

He was born on April 8, 1938 in Highsplint, Kentucky to the late Victor and Ella (Johnson) Maples. A son of a coal miner, he spent his early years in Harlan County.  Merle served in the United State Air Force from 1956 to 1960.  

Merle started working at Wabash Alloys in 1961.  He worked as the Production Manager for twenty years and retired as the Plant Manager. He spent over 40 hardworking years at Wabash Alloys. 

Merle married his sweetheart, Phyllis Jean Melzoni, on July 16th, 1958, in Marlow, Tennessee.  Together, they had fours sons and one daughter.  He is survived by sons, Merle K. (Lisa) Maples Jr., of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Mark K. Maples, of Peru, Indiana, and Matthew K. (Amy) Maples, of Huntington, Indiana; daughter, Melissa (David) Harrell of Clinton, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Maples, his brother, Aurbin Maples and four sisters, Chlola Maples, Freda Mullins, Truma Card and Lana Burchett, and his son, Mitchell K. Maples and grandchild, Mitchell K. Maples, Jr.

Merle was a wonderful man that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished.  He will be remembered as a loving father, a patient and supportive "Papaw", and a US Air Force Veteran.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with his friend, former coworker and Pastor Tim Prater officiating the service. 

Visitation hours will be on Monday, February 25, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elsa L. Case

Elsa L. Case, 75, of Urbana, passed away at 12:27 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Rolling Meadows Health and Rehabilitation in LaFontaine.  She was born on May 4, 1943 in Spokane, Washington to the late George W. and Evelyne (Rader) Faler. 

Elsa attended business school in Washington state. She retired as a secretary at a factory and then retired from Big R in 2006.  Elsa married Walter Case and they were married for thirty-five years. Elsa liked to fish and hunt with her husband.  She holds a record for shooting one of the largest bucks that weighed in at 210 pounds.  Elsa also enjoyed music, watching TV and visiting with family.

Elsa is survived by her husband, Walter Case, of Jalapa; son, Randy Weiss, of LaFontaine; daughter, Stacy Weiss of Fort Wayne; brothers, Randy Faler and George Faler and two grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Pastor Ryan Weaver as the officiant.  Burial will follow immediately at Memorial Lawns Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.

Donna L. Storer

Donna L. Storer, 92, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, died at 10:12 a.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne.  Donna was born in Springfield, Illinois on January 23, 1927 to the late Ernest O. and Helen (Haggerty) Pontius.  

Donna worked as a part owner of Valley Grove Real Estate Agency and then as an agent for Bradley Century 21, both in Fort Wayne. She was a member of the St. Joseph United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne.

Donna is survived by sons, Jim (Janet) Storer, of Willoughby, Ohio, and Don Storer, of Rome City, Indiana; daughters, Cheryl (Dave) Strader, of Angola, Indiana and Cindy Clevenger, of Fishers, Indiana; grandchildren, Aaron Strader, Shawn Strader, Scott Storer, Sarah Storer, Jake Storer, Jeff Bender, Don Bender and Adrienne Moeller; great-grandchildren, William Strader, Elizabeth Strader, Joseph Strader, Brianna Strader, Christopher Strader, Jayla Watson, Jashon Carswell, Abby Bender, Charlie Bender, Eli Bender, Dylan Bender, Donny Bender, Brooke Moeller and Luella Moeller; great-great-grandchild, Khalia Sanders; and sister, Carol Ann Dossey, of Indianapolis, Indiana.  

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940.  Burial will follow at LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery. 

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service, starting at 10:00 a.m.

Scott M. Brackett

Scott M. Brackett, 47, of Wabash, passed away at 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2019.  He was born in Wabash, on April 24, 1971 to Danny Brackett and Debra Beeks.

Scott worked at Dalton Factory for many years.  He was affiliated with Christian Heritage Church.  Scott loved to fish, mushroom hunt, and being outdoors. 

Scott is survived by his mother Debra, of Wabash; daughters, Kennedy Brackett and Delecia Halverson, both of Wabash; brother, Mike Venosky, of Wabash; granddaughter, Harper Morrisett and close family friend, Tonya Hampton, of Wabash.  He is preceded in death by his son, Daniel Brackett, who died on November 14, 2018, father, Danny; and brother Martin "David" Brackett.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992.  Tim Prater will be the officiant.  Family and friends may call two hours prior to the funeral service starting at 9:00 a.m.

Raymond L. Bland

Raymond L. Bland, 87, of Marion, Indiana, passed away at 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2019.  He was born on January 19, 1932, in Wabash, to the late William H. and Leora (Dunn) Bland.

Raymond was a 1952 graduate of Linlawn High School.  After graduation, Raymond joined the United States Army and served until 1954. While in the Army, he served in the Korean War.  Raymond married Mary Ann Glover on April 26, 1980.  She passed away on February 7, 2011.  

Raymond retired from Container Corporation in 1997.  After retiring he worked as a real estate agent with Terrell Realty, retiring in 2013.  Raymond was a IU fan.  He loved playing the harmonica and watching his grandchildren's sporting events.  

Raymond is survived by his son, Raymond Bland, Jr., of Marion; daughter, Rae Ann (Jacob) Taylor, of Marion; grandchildren, Xander Taylor and Syler Taylor; and step-grandchildren; Derrick Jivery and Branden Jivery. He is preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2019 at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 South Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940. Pastor John Cook will be the officiant.  Burial will follow immediately at the LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery. 

Visitation for family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the funeral home.

Daniel B. Barton

Daniel B. Barton, 58, of Huntington, Indiana, passed away at 3:59 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.  He was born, in Wabash, on February 22, 1960, to Larry and Joan (Pogue) Barton.

Dan was a 1978 graduate of Southwood High School. He worked in skilled trades for General Motors in Roanoke, Indiana.  Dan was member of the LaFontaine Christian Church and United Automobile Workers. Dan loved fishing, hiking and mushroom hunting in the Salamonie State Forest. 

Dan is survived by his father, Larry (June) Barton of Kokomo; two sons, Matthew Barton of Bloomington, and Andrew Barton of Marion; daughter Stephanie Barton, Federal Way, Washington; sister, Lori (James) Dove of Fort Wayne; and special friend, Wanda Smith of Huntington.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Joan.  

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 South Main Street, LaFontaine, IN  46940.  Mark Pogue will be officiating.  Burial will follow immediately at LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at the funeral home.
