Arden "Tom" Dean Thomas

Arden “Tom” Dean Thomas, 85, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, Indiana. He was born to the late Homer and Erma (Morford) Thomas on December 19, 1927 in North Manchester, Indiana.

He was a 1945 graduate from Chester High School. He married Juanita J. Harrell on July 11, 1953, she survives. He served his country in the United States Army. He worked for Brown Trucking in Wabash, Indiana for 14 years and then Unger Company for 1 ½ years, then he started working for Yellow Freight System of Muncie, Indiana in 1964 after 25 years he retired in December of 1989. He was a member of American Legion Post 15, VFW Post 286, and Moose Lodge all of Wabash, Indiana. He was also a member of New Life Baptist Church of Wabash, Indiana.

He is also survived by three granddaughters, Holly Sutton, Mrs. Bobby (Teresa) Velasquez, and April Sutton; 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Sutton in 1995, a brother, and a sister.

Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Pastor Scott Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Servia, Indiana.

William C. Siders


William C. Siders, of LaFontaine, Indiana, passed away 5:53 pm on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Luthern Hosptial, Fort Wayne, Indiana.  William was born on March 9, 1947, in Wabash, Indiana.  He was the son of the late Everett Siders and Martha (Woehler) Siders.

He attended Southwood High School.  He married Susan Long, on November 21, 1969, she survives.  He was a veteran of the United States Army.  He worked at Wyatt Oldsmobile, Quality Oldsmobile, Devoe Chevrolet and Matthew’s Buick.  He retired in 1999.  He was Past Commander and life member of Van Buren American Legion Post 368.  He was a member of Amvets Post 5, Marion, Indiana, 40 and 8, Marion, Indiana, Odd Fellows I.O.O.F. Lodge, Lafontaine, Indiana.

He is also survived by a daughter Lynn Siders, LaFontaine, Indiana; two sisters, Sandra (James) Weaver, LaFontaine, Indiana and Mrs. Linda (Don) Jervis, LaFontaine, Indiana; one grandson, Zachary Taylor Siders Hunt, Lafontaine, Indiana; brother-in-law, C.W. Butch Long, Gas City, Indiana.

Memorial Service will be 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 South Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940, with Chaplain Charles Hall officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 South Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940.  In lieu of flower donations can be made to Van Buren American Legion, Post 368, 7595 East 450 North, Van Buren, Indiana 46991

Tamra (Elshire) Draving

Tamra (Elshire) Draving, 53, of Amboy, Indiana passed away at her home at 6:48 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2013. She was born to Leo and Rosalie (Robertson) Elshire on April 26, 1960 in Wabash, Indiana, they both survive in Amboy, Indiana.

She was a 1978 graduate from Southwood High School. She married Howard Draving on September 24, 1983, he survives. She worked for the Department of Natural Resources of Mississinewa Reservoir. Tamra enjoyed mushroom hunting, camping, everything about the outdoors, and her grandchildren.

She is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nathan (Macy) Ebert of Converse, Indiana and Dory Draving of Wabash, Indiana; brothers, Denny Elshire (Bev) of Wabash, Indiana and Marty Elshire of Wabash, Indiana; sister, Marcy Dillon of Wabash, Indiana; three grandchildren, Jada, Gracelynn, and Nevaeh; also her best friend, Julie Henderson. She was preceded in death by her nephew, Dustin Elshire.

Funeral Service will be 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940, with Tom South officiating. Burial will follow cremation in Mississinewa Cemetery in Somerset, Indiana.

William E. Givens


William E. Givens, 75, of Wabash, Indiana since 1985 passed away at 6:25 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Millers Merry Manor in Marion, Indiana. He was born to the late Robert Givens and Irene Ashford in Miami County, Indiana on June 16, 1938.

He was a graduate from Clay Township High School and Purdue University of Kokomo in 1991. He retired from General Motors of Kokomo, Indiana. He served his country as a United States Marine from 1956-1959. He was a past member of American Legion Post 15 of Wabash, he was a member of Wabash Eagles Lodge and served as past Chaplin of American Legion Riders.

He is survived by a son, Joe Givens (Sarah) of Oklahoma and daughter, Kim Wallace (Randy Titus) of Wabash, Indiana; brothers, Don Givens (Kathy) of Oklahoma and Paul Givens (Lou) of Kokomo, Indiana; half brother, Jim Givens (Norma) of Illinois; sister-in-laws, Kathy Gamble of California, Charlotte Givens of Akron, Indiana, and Hilda Givens of Virginia; granddaughter, Samantha Givens of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob, Larry, and John and a sister, Margaret Biggs.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2013 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Military Honors given at 6 p.m..

Alice Jane Nance

Alice Jane Nance, 88, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 9:39 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born to the late Hugh G. and Louise (Carr) Miller on August 2, 1925 in Wabash, Indiana.

She married Herbert Guy Nance on June 10, 1989, he passed away on November 12, 2003. She was a homemaker for her family. She was a member of Christian Heritage Church in Wabash, Indiana. Alice loved the Lord and was very proud to have such a large family. She enjoyed all of the social activites at the nursing home and was very involved.

She is survived by three daughters, Diana Spencer of Wabash, Indiana, Carolyn Hale of Wittensville, Kentucky and Mrs. Ronald (Barbara) Gilbert of Wabash, Indiana; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2013 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Pastor Tim Prater officiating. Burial will follow in the Hoff Cemetery in Wabash County, Indiana.
