Ben B. Smith

Ben B. Smith, 94, of Lagro, passed away at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Wellbrooke of Wabash.  He was born on January 9, 1926, in Lunenburg, Arkansas, to the late Willie and Lillie F. (Shannon) Smith.  Ben married Shirley A. Fendrick on November 10, 1951; she passed away on August 29, 2011. 

Ben served in the United States Army during World War 2 and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.  He retired, in 1988, from the railroad as a freight agent. Since 1950, he was a member of the Transportation Union. Ben was a member of the Christian Heritage Church in Wabash.

Ben is survived by two sons, Dr. Dale (Deana) Smith, of Elgin, Oklahoma and Paul (Linda) Smith, of Lagro; five grandchildren, Jamie (Brett) Stephens, Lynn (Andrew) Greenspan, Cory (Angel Nance) Smith, Kaitlin (Andrew) Duffy and Courtney (Neil) Miller; four great-grandsons, Adin Stephens, Axel Stephens, Warren Greenspan and Elijah Duffy; one brother, Eudell (Shirley) Smith, of Melbourne, Arkansas and one sister, Eudene Holt, of West Plains, Missouri.  He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Due to COVID concerns, the family will have private services.  The family is planning a celebration of life to be held at a later date.

Ronald E. Jones

Ronald E. Jones, 46, of Wabash, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020 at his residence.  He was born in Logansport, Indiana on October 12, 1973, to Donald Jones, Sr. and Frieda (Ronnie D.) Corder Warren.

Ron was a 1993 graduate of Southwood High School.  He worked at Wendt LLP of Wabash.  Ron was an avid music lover and he played the drums.  He was a hard worker and was devoted to his family and friends.  He enjoyed working on and driving his 1969 Oldsmobile Cutless 442.

Ron is survived by his fiancĂ©, Wendy Short and her daughter, Kaelyn Short, of Wabash; his mother, Frieda, of Wabash; son Trenton (Kimberly) Jones, of Wabash; daughter, Kaitlyn Jones, of Wabash; two brothers, Don (Carolyn) Jones, of Wabash and Dave (Khristy) Jones, of Wisconsin; step-brother, Ronnie Warren, Jr., of Wabash; three grandchildren, Jackson Jones, Carter Jones and Asher Jones.  He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Jones, Sr. 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Pastor Brad Wright officiating.  Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery in Wabash. 

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the funeral home.

Robert Ross Hollenback

Robert Ross "Bob" Hollenback, 72, a lifetime resident of Wabash, passed away at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.  He was born in Wabash on May 11, 1948, to the late Charles and Reta (Lang) Hollenback. 

Bob was retired from Chrysler in Kokomo.  He served in the United States Army.  He was a lifetime member of the Wabash Moose 1195, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 286, Wabash Eagles Lodge 549, The American Legion Post 248 of Lagro and the Wabash FOP Lodge 83. 

Bob is survived by one son, Micah Koch, of Wabash; two grandchildren, Heidi Koch and Ashley Koch, both of Wabash; tow great-grandchildren, McKenly Koch and Laken Koch; two brothers, Ed Hollenback, of Wabash and Dave Hollenback, of Roann; and six sisters, Ruby Herrald, Branson Missouri, Pauline Brane, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ann Koch, of Wabash, Carolyn Hollenback, of Markle, Connie Dutton, of North Carolina and Mary Ellen Morris, of North Manchester.  He was preceded in death by one brother. 

Burial, with Military Honors, will be at Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana at a later date to be announced. 

Preferred memorials are to Local Wabash Shop with a Cop.

Kathleen Stewart

Kathleen Stewart, 96, of Wabash, passed away at 12:12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester.  She was born on June 26, 1923, in Wabash, to the late Clarence and Dorthea (Ferris) Stephan. 

Kathleen married Joseph W. Stewart on September 21, 1941.  She held many jobs throughout the her life besides being a loving mother.  She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Wabash.  

Kathleen is survived by two sons, James (Catherine) Stewart, of Port Charlotte, Florida and Alan (Kathleen) Stewart, of Nokomis, Florida; daughter-in-law, Joyce Stewart, of Franklin, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Matthew Stewart, Jacqueline Stewart and Jacquelyn Stewart; two great-grandchildren, Isabella Stewart and Olivia Rose. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; one son, Michael Stewart, granddaughter, Kathleen Stewart and two sisters, Lois Shank and Phyllis Conyer.

Calling hours will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992.

Ida Sizemore

Ida Sizemore, 97, of Wabash, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2020, at 3:05 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor - East, in Wabash.  She was born on July 27, 1922, in Buchanan County, Virginia to the late John D. and Sara (Lowe) White.  

Ida married Edward F. Sizemore in 1947; he passed away in 1987.  For twenty-five years, Ida worked at Kroger Egg in Wabash.  Ida's highest priority was her family.  

Ida is survived by her son, Ben (Tina) Sizemore, of Evansville, Indiana; grandchildren, Bill Sizemore, Jason McIntosh, Martin Sizemore, Joshua McIntosh and Katie Omohundro; thirteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Dudley, of Rochester, New York.  Ida was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Sizemore and granddaughter, Michelle Renee (Sizemore) Reeves; three brothers and three sisters.  

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, IN  46992.  Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Marion.  

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.

Viola Lehner


                                            
Viola M. Lehner, 98, of Wabash, passed away at 6:18 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at Wellbrooke of Wabash.  She was born on December 8, 1921, in Wabash, to the late Chester and Eva (Copeland) Holley.

Viola married John F. Lehner on January 4, 1946; he passed away on February 14, 1957.  After 26 years of service, Viola retired from Wabash Junior High School as a cafeteria cook. She was a member of the Wabash Church of the Brethren.

After her husband passed, it was Viola's mission to raise her son and daughter with great values and love.  She also had an extreme love for her grandchildren.  

Viola is survived by one son, John (Marsha) Lehner, of Wabash; one daughter, Judy (Robert) Allmon, of Urbana; three grandsons, Brent (Annie) Lehner, of Wabash, Heath (Megan) Lehner, of Lagro and Scott (Kami) Ross, of Lagro; two granddaughters, Tracy Phebus, of Westfield and Kimberly (Douglas) Bollan, of Wabash; and ten great-grandchildren, David Phebus, of Westfield, Emily (Josh) Neideck, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Erin Lehner, Nathan Lehner, Nicholas Bollan, all of Wabash, Chase Ross, Noah Ross, Grady Lehner, Ross Lehner and Brooks Lehner, all of Lagro; and one great-great-grandchild, Asher Neideck, of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  She was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Falls Cemetery in Wabash with Pastor Doug Veal as the officiant. The family will have private calling hours prior to the graveside service.

Mary E. "Dolly Hubbard


Mary E. "Dolly" Hubbard, 84, of Wabash, passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Vernon Health and Rehab in Wabash.  She was born on February 28, 1936, in Everetts, Kentucky, to the late Walt and Louise (Hill) Cox.  

Dolly married Thomas J. Hubbard on March 17, 1953; he passed away July 21, 2008.  They lived in Kentucky until moving to Indiana in 1953.  Dolly worked at Wagners and United Technologies.  Dolly loved taking care of kids.

Dolly is survived by five sons, Charles "Ted" (Tracy) Hubbard, of LaFontaine, Richard (Kathy) Hubbard, Jack (Diana) Hubbard and Charles Edward Hubbard, all of Wabash, and Grant (Denise) Hubbard, of Marion; three daughters, Patricia L. (Jerry) McCord, Debbie (Larry) Honeycutt and Teresa Cox, all of Wabash; one brother, Bill (Bonnie) Cox, of Peru; 35 grandchildren, 91 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren. Dolly is preceded in death by one daughter, Melinda (Jimmy) Honeycutt; three sons, Tommy (Cheryl) Cox, Norman Hubbard, Leroy (Terri) Hubbard; two brothers, Bud and Robert Cox and four sisters, Donna Faye Eastom, Betty Jo Miller, Barbara Ann Gibson and Darlene Kelly.  

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Friends Cemetery in Wabash.  Pastor Danny Honeycutt will be the officiant.
