Todd Allen Slagal


Todd A. Slagal, 51, of Wabash, passed away at 4:28 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.  He was born on October 25, 1969, in Wabash, to the late Chuck Slagal and Nancy Norman.

Todd is survived by two daughters, Mariya Slagal and Kaylee Slagal both of Wabash; brother, Troy Slagal of Wabash; sister, Dawn Howell of Sweetser; two grandchildren, Thaya Faust and Sylas Shipper.  He was preceded in death by one brother.

Per the Todd's wishes, there will be no services.

Kathleen Kryscuk

Kathleen Kryscuk, 71, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Miller's Merry Manor, East in Wabash.  She was born on June 8, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Paul & Shirley (Dailey) Kryscuk.  

Per Kathleen's request, there will be no services.

Joyce Staniford


Joyce Lee Staniford, 90, of Wabash, passed away at 7:06 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Parkview Randallia Hospital in Fort Wayne.  She was born in Nippa, Kentucky on February 28, 1930, to the late Sterling and Fannie (Daniels) Castle.

Joyce married Winfred Lee Staniford on March 31, 1962; he passed away in 1990.  She worked at Waggoners in Wabash, Controls of North Manchester, and Vernon Manor in Wabash. Joyce was a member of the Wabash Freewill Baptist Church Erie Street.

Joyce is survived by her son, Tom (Shirley) Staniford of Wabash and one sister, Bonnie Stambough of Lady Lake, Florida.  She was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at McDonald Funeral Homes, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Pastor Tod Masters officiating.  Burial will follow at Memorial Lawns Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior starting at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Virginia A. Harrell


Virginia A. Harrell, 97, of Wabash, passed away at 12:55 a.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Miller's Merry Manor, West in Wabash.  She was born on February 28, 1923, in Wabash, to the late Milton and Georgia (Burke) Kendall.

Virginia married Robert O. Harrell on November 5, 1941; he passed away on August 28, 2010.  Virginia enjoyed playing cards, camping and most of all spending time with her family.

Virginia is survived by one son, Steve (Shirley) Harrell, of Wabash; two daughters, Roberta Alexander, of North Manchester and Linda (Charles) Mollett, of Wabash; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one son, Robert V. Harrell, two grandchildren, Jerry Bradley Capes and Craig Matthew McLaughlin, five brothers, two sisters and one great-granddaughter.  

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021 at McDonald Funeral Homes, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 South Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940 with Pastor Larry Hail.  Burial will follow at the LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.  Due Covid-19 mandates, the family requests that friends and family follow CDC guidelines and wear masks.

Ruth Burkholder


 Ruth Burkholder, 92, of Wabash, passed away at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Miller's Merry Manor East, in Wabash.  She was born on October 14, 1928, in Gas City, Indiana, to the late Roy and Betsy (Yates) McCormick.

Ruth married Kenneth L. Burkholder on October 25, 1952; he passed away in 1975. She was a member of the Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Wabash and of the Wabash Moose Lodge #1195.

Ruth is survived by her three sons Francis (Rita Leanne) Voland, Charles (Jody) Burkholder, and Robert (Sally) Burkholder, all of Wabash; one daughter, Linda (Paul) Sleighter, of North Manchester; one sister Dorothy McCormick, of Fairmount; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by five brothers, three sisters and three great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at McDonald Funeral Homes, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Pastor Lou Hunt officiating.  Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery in Wabash.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the funeral service, starting at 12:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mary A. Norris

Mary A. Norris of Wabash, Indiana, passed away at 5:01 p.m. on January 13, 2021 at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, Indiana.

Mary was born on July 11, 1919 to Hazel Ply and Loran Rife. She was married to Uhul (Joe) Norris for 70 years. He passed away on November 19, 2007. She was a loving wife and mother. She was a member of Bachelor Creek Church of Christ. She worked at Honeywell for 20 years. The family lived in Wabash, Indiana until moving to Naples, Florida for 25 years and Avon Park for 5 years. They returned to Wabash in 2001. 

Mary was a homemaker and girl scout leader. She enjoyed swimming, fishing, walking along the beach, shelling and making shell crafts. While living in Florida she raised Orchids and many tropical flowers and plants. 

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Norris, of North Manchester, Indiana; and several Nieces and Nephews. She is preceded in death by 4 brothers and 7 sisters. 

Burial will be private and take place at Falls Cemetery in Wabash.

Rex Temple

Rex Temple, 79, of Wabash, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021.  Rex was born on December 11, 1941 in Wabash County to Richard E. and Harriet (Tisovic) Temple.  A lifelong resident of Wabash County, Rex graduated from Wabash High School in 1960.  He attended Pasadena City College in 1961.  

Rex was president of Temple Advertising Company, founded in 1972.  He covered northern Indiana as a traveling salesman for forty years.  He also owned Temple Auto Sales for many years. Rex was a natural born salesman.

One of the highlights of Rex's life (and there were many) was taking a 44 foot boat down the Mississippi River from Chicago to Key West.  The boat was called The Easy Rider.  Staying in New Orleans, Sarasota, Florida and other exotic ports of call. 

Rex was an author, having several articles published in national magazines on a variety of subjects, most of them hunting and fishing related.  He was an avid golfer, enjoyed nature and taking his friends to his remote cabin in Ontario, Canada for thirty years. Rex also liked seeking out fine restaurants and exploring the Southern Carribean with his long-time companion of 48 years, Betty Temple; she survives. 

Rex thought that life was to be enjoyed, not endured.  He took time to smell the roses along life's path.  Rex touched all the bases!

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992. Pastor JP Freeman and John Norris will be officiating. Burial will follow at Falls Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2021, at the funeral home.

Carolyn Susie Mays


 Carolyn S. "Susie" Mays, 83, of Wabash, passed away at 10:02 a.m. on January 8, 2021 at Parkview Wabash Hospital.  She was born on September 30, 1937, in Marion, Indiana, to the late Ralph and Ida Louise (Crepps) Ragon.

Susie married Kelly Mays; he passed away in 2000.  She retired from RCA in Marion and then retired from the Parkview Wabash Hospital, working in the home healthcare department.  Susie loved and was an avid bingo player.  She played locally at the Knights of Columbus and Elks Bingo.  She also enjoyed camping with family and friends.

Susie is survived by two daughters, Dianna Ragon, of Jacksonville, Florida and Roberta (Paul) McKnight, of Wabash; one sister, Bonnie Law, of Virginia; fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two sons, William Freital, Jr. and Robert Freital and two daughters, Anna Graham and Tamra Freital.

Funeral services will be at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021 at McDonald Funeral Homes, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, IN  46992 with Tom McKnight officiating.  

Friends and family may call two hours prior to the funeral service starting at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  

Preferred memorials are to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Ronald McDonald House at Riley Hospital.
