Walter H. "Walt" Unger

Walter H. “Walt” Unger, 94, of rural Wabash, Indiana passed away at 2:50 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Wellbrooke of Wabash. He was born to the late Jacob and Clara (Smith) Unger on September 20, 1918 in Richvalley, Indiana.

Walt married Eloise L. Shanafelt on December 13, 1947, she survives. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII and Korea. He retired as a Mechanic Auto Tech at the Ford Garage after 52 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 15 of Wabash, Indiana for 60 years.

He is also survived by two sons, Denny Unger (Alicia) of North Manchester, Indiana and Richard Unger (Robin) of Wabash, Indiana; four grandchildren, Patrick Unger (Kristi) of Wabash, Indiana, Joseph Unger of Iowa, Daniel Unger (Crystal) of Wabash, Indiana, and Donald Unger (Ashley) of LaFontaine, Indiana; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David Unger, a brother and three sisters.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940, with Pastor David Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory in Grant County, Indiana.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the funeral home.
