Shirley Ann Burgess

 

Shirley Ann Burgess, 83, of LaFontaine, Indiana passed away at 10:09 a.m. at her home on September 25, 2024. She was born on August 22, 1941, to Omar and Jesse Lynn (Vanlandingham) Thompson in Grant County, Indiana.

Shirley was a 1959 graduate of Lagro High School. She married her husband Stephen Burgess on June 23, 1962. Shirley was a homemaker most of her life, but in her youthful years she worked at Sears in the accounting department. She also worked at Handy Andy Filling Station in LaFontaine, Indiana. Shirley held a membership with Lincolnville Community Church in Wabash, Indiana. In her free time, she enjoyed doing puzzles, playing the game Aggravation, and traveling. Shirley was also a wonderful cook and made many meals for family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Stephen Burgess of LaFontaine, Indiana; one son, Todd (Denise) Burgess of Warsaw, Indiana; one sister, Betty Crull of Wabash, Indiana; and two grandchildren, Cameron Ables, and Kyleigh Nicole Burgess. She is preceded in death by her parents, Omar and Jesse Lynn Thompson; two sons, Bradley Burgess who passed away in 1997, Terry Burgess who passed away on May 6, 2024; one brother, Charles Thompson, two sisters, Carolyn Armstrong, and Vickie Marine.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 South Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940, with Pastor John Cook officiating. Burial will follow at LaFontaine I.O.O.F Cemetery in LaFontaine, Indiana.

Visitation for friends and family will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the funeral home.
