Juanita Catherine Rapp, 95, of LaFontaine, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Northwood Manor Senior Living in Marion. Juanita was born on January 10, 1931 in Huntington County, Indiana, to the late Ernest (“Oren”) and Audra (“Delight”) (Dimick) Collins.
Juanita married George Rapp, Jr., on August 11, 1950. George passed away in June of 2020.
Juanita is survived by one daughter, R. Marlene Minor, one son, John D. Rapp (Ann Herda-Rapp), one grandchild, Jacob Rapp, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol L. Rapp, and by brothers-in-law, Paul W. Rapp, Charles R. Rapp, Fred Cullar, and Glenn Summers, and sisters-in-law, Ruth Anna Summers, Joyce Cullar, Pauline Rapp, and Rosie Rapp.
Earning her bachelor’s degree from Marion College, and later her Master’s degree from Ball State University, Juanita taught for twenty years in Marion Community Schools, including as an elementary school teacher and Gifted and Talented program teacher; in the years prior to and following teaching, she gave music lessons to countless students. Upon retirement, Juanita drew great satisfaction from tending her beautiful flower gardens and was deeply involved in community service. Throughout her life, she was involved in the LaFontaine United Methodist Church, Lincolnville United Methodist Church, Kiwanis of Wabash, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Grant County Historical Society, and as a traveling United Methodist lay speaker. Juanita served in leadership positions in various 4-H clubs, the Grant County Historical Society, the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, and other organizations.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main St., LaFontaine, Indiana 46940, with visitation two hours prior to the service. Pastor Susan Shambaugh will officiate the service. Burial will follow at LaFontaine I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
