Shirley Ann Burgess

 

Shirley Ann Burgess, 83, of LaFontaine, Indiana passed away at 10:09 a.m. at her home on September 25, 2024. She was born on August 22, 1941, to Omar and Jesse Lynn (Vanlandingham) Thompson in Grant County, Indiana.

Shirley was a 1959 graduate of Lagro High School. She married her husband Stephen Burgess on June 23, 1962. Shirley was a homemaker most of her life, but in her youthful years she worked at Sears in the accounting department. She also worked at Handy Andy Filling Station in LaFontaine, Indiana. Shirley held a membership with Lincolnville Community Church in Wabash, Indiana. In her free time, she enjoyed doing puzzles, playing the game Aggravation, and traveling. Shirley was also a wonderful cook and made many meals for family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Stephen Burgess of LaFontaine, Indiana; one son, Todd (Denise) Burgess of Warsaw, Indiana; one sister, Betty Crull of Wabash, Indiana; and two grandchildren, Cameron Ables, and Kyleigh Nicole Burgess. She is preceded in death by her parents, Omar and Jesse Lynn Thompson; two sons, Bradley Burgess who passed away in 1997, Terry Burgess who passed away on May 6, 2024; one brother, Charles Thompson, two sisters, Carolyn Armstrong, and Vickie Marine.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 South Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940, with Pastor John Cook officiating. Burial will follow at LaFontaine I.O.O.F Cemetery in LaFontaine, Indiana.

Visitation for friends and family will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the funeral home.

Helen Bowman


 Helen Louise (Gilbert) Bowman, 92, of Wabash, Indiana passed away peacefully at 11:44 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Bickford of Wabash in Wabash, Indiana. She was born on April 5, 1932, to Lester and Hulleta (Kistler) Gilbert in rural South Whitley, Indiana. She will be remembered as a sweet and loving woman.

Helen married Roland “Sam” Bowman on June 7, 1953, and then moved to Somerset, Indiana. Helen worked as a factory worker for numerous factories around Wabash County throughout her adulthood.  She held a membership with Friends Church in Wabash, Indiana. Helen was also an avid collector of a variety of different items.

Helen is survived by her son, Michael (Sally) Bowman of Peru, Indiana; two daughters, Glendus (Kirk Kalbfleisch) Dowell of Kalispell, Montana, Christina Bowman of Madison, Indiana; two grandchildren, Neil (Nicole W.) Bowman, Andrea (Zach) Craft; eight great-grandchildren, Braden, Eve, Berkley, Ella, Jaxxon, Mia, Cam, and Alyssa; one brother, Donald Gilbert; seven sisters, Elouise Bolinger, Frances Cottrell, Doris Krider, Wanda Stover, Norma Jean Hogan, Gyneth Kethcart, Patricia Foy; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Hulleta Gilbert; husband, Roland Bowman who passed away on August 11, 2005; three brothers, Glenn, Kenneth, Galen; three sisters, Phyllis Baker, Ada Rumsey, and Mildred Burnett.

The family would like to add a special thank you to Eleos Hospice Service and Bickford of Wabash for the loving care their mother received over the last few months and years. No words could properly express their gratitude.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Mississinewa Memorial Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband of 52 years.

Fred Hill

 

Fred Hill, 90, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 2:25 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at his residence in Wabash, Indiana. He was born on May 11, 1934, to Grant and Cordie (Collins) Hill in Odds, Kentucky.

Fred married his wife Marilyn Coon on February 23, 1957. He worked for General Tire for thirty years, then later retired. Fred was an avid coon hunter throughout his entire life. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing. Fred also loved watching his grandchildren play ball, but most of all spending time with his family. 

Fred is survived by his son, Fred E. Hill of Indianapolis, Indiana; three daughters, MaDonna J. (Pat Moede) Hill of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Rhonda K. (David) Burns of Wabash, Indiana, Tonna (Stanley) Hudson of Warsaw, Indiana; two brothers, Thurman Hill of Wabash, Indiana, Billy (Evelyn) Ray Hill of Wabash, Indiana; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Hill; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Cordie Hill; his wife, Marilyn (Coon) Hill who passed away September 2, 2021; one sister, Shelby Wiley; one brother, Grant “Moonie” Hill; one great-great-grandchild, Amelia Rose. 

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024, at McDonald Funeral Home, Wabash Chapel, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Pastor Charlie Easterday officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Lawns Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.

Visitation for friends and family will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the funeral home.

Brady R. Martin

 

Brady R. Martin, 62, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at his parent's residence in Amboy, Indiana. He was born on February 13, 1962, to Charles and Shirley (Robertson) Martin in Wabash, Indiana.

Brady was a lifetime resident of Wabash County. He was a 1980 graduate of Southwood High School. Brady worked at Incipio Devices in Huntington, Indiana. In Brady’s youthful years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding minibikes. In his adulthood, he found a passion for music and playing the bass guitar in his free time. 

Brady is survived by his parents, Charles and Shirley Martin of Amboy, Indiana; one daughter, Brandi Martin of Wabash, Indiana; one brother, Monty Martin of Amboy, Indiana; and three grandchildren, Riley McNeil, Abby McNeil, and Remi Rose.

Per Brady’s request, a private family celebration will be held by the family at a later date.
