Lenard Ray Porter

Lenard Ray Porter, 62, of Wabash, Indiana, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 11:05 p.m.  He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 16, 1955.
Lenard was a veteran of both the United States Army and the United States Navy.  He retired as a machinist and had a love for fishing and watching television.
He is survived by his mother, Marie (Porter) Cavins, Wabash; brother, Henry (Dawn) Cavins, Jr., Gray, Kentucky; sisters, Mary Moore, Wabash, and Annette Cavins, Andrews.  He is preceded in death by his father, Henry Cavins, Sr. and brother, Robert Wayne Cavins.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Ralph Johnson officiating. Burial to follow at the Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana. Friends may call one hour prior to services.

Marc D. "Bernie" Carroll

Marc D. “Bernie” Carroll, 66, of Wabash, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 10:00 p.m. at his residence.  Bernie was born in Wabash to the late William and Gertrude (Brothers) Carroll on June 22, 1951.
Bernie retired as a union operator for Gaunt & Son and E&B Paving, Wabash.  He also owned and operated Carroll's Snow Removal.  Bernie was an avid golfer, loved to fish and go to truck pulls, but lived to be around friends and help his community. He was an active member of several organizations, Elks Lodge #471 of Wabash, Loyal Order of Moose of Wabash No. 1195, Wabash Eagles Lodge #549, American Legion Post 15 of Wabash, Harley Davidson Owners Group and Big Brother and Big Sister Program.  
Bernie is survived by significant other, Jan Schlemmer, Wabash; sister, Beverly (Elmer) Williams, Roann and two nephews, Jared Williams, Rochester and Shawn Williams, Roann.  
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating.  Burial will follow at Lagro Cemetery, Lagro, Indiana.  Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Moose Twilight Service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017 at the funeral home.

Paul L. Edwards

Paul L. Edwards, 76, was a lifetime resident of Wabash, Indiana. Paul completed his long journey at 10:54 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  He was born on August 23, 1941 in Wabash to the late Henry and Juanita (Shoemaker) Edwards.

Paul was a retired factory worker and a member of the Eagles Lodge in Wabash.  He attended Sweetwater Church in North Manchester, Indiana and Potter's House Church in Wabash.  
Paul is survived by daughters, Darla (Ed) Hildebrand, Mt. Gilead, Ohio and Christina Anderson, Wabash; son, Paul (Terry) Shoemaker, Michigan; brothers, Henry Nate Edwards and Franklin (Barbara) Edwards both of Wabash; sister, Barbara (Mick) Gatchel, Wabash; thirteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by daughter, Dawn M. Edwards; granddaughter Duranda Drue Anderson; grandson, Jason Lee Streich and one sister.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Pastor Bernice Pickering officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home two hours prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date at Gardens of Memory, Huntington, Indiana.

Glenda L. Cox



Glenda L. Cox, 74, of Wabash, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Parkview Hospital Dupont, Fort Wayne, Indiana.  She was born in Wabash on April 17, 1943 to the late Glenn and Lucille (Vickery) Brunn.

Glenda retired from Wabash County Hospital and she was a member of the Wabash Church of the Nazarene. She loved spending time with her family.

Glenda is survived by sons, Bryan (Karen) Cox, Wayne (Sherry) Cox and Robert Cox, all of Wabash; grandchildren, Codi Cox and Jessi Cox both of Wabash and Tyler Cox, Indianapolis, Indiana; brother, John (Marilyn) Brunn, Wabash; and sister, Vicki (Arlyn) Woodcox, Butler, Indiana.  She is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Pastor Kirk Johnson officiating.  Friends may call three hours prior to the service starting at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Falls Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana.

Bessie Mae "Beck" Behny



Bessie Mae (Beck) Powell Behny joined her heavenly family on November 19, 2017.  The spunky, feisty diminutive  wife, mother, grandma and great mimi was born to Mae and Orange Powell in Lagro Township on June 16, 1929. She was the last living member of twelve children.   She married Harold Behny on August 2, 1947 and they were wed fifty-six years. Harold preceded her in death in October 2003.

Beck was an avid horse woman in her younger days, training and showing quarter horses as a hobby. She was an excellent seamstress, terrific cook, had a green thumb with plants and enjoyed planting flowers in any available piece of earth. She was  a long-time member of Dora Christian Church.

Beck was survived by two daughters, Rebecca (Tom) Wagoner and Cynthia (Tim) Eslava, as do four  grandchildren, Ryan (Courtney) Wagoner of Wabash, , Margaret (January Simpson) Clifton,  Ft Wayne, Mariah (Anna) Clifton-Pierle of Plainfield and  Kitty (Christopher) Bishop of Noblesville. Six great-children , Gabrielle and Izabielle  Wagoner, Jackson and Quentin Pierle, and Alison and Ada Bishop, and special friend, Arden Heagy who will forever remember her chocolate chip cookies, sugar cream pies, noodles and handmade American Girl doll outfits.  
   
Funeral services will be on Friday, November 24 at 2:30 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Minister Mark Wismiewski officiating.  Entombment will follow at Gardens of Memory, Huntington, Indiana with all of her grandchildren serving as pall bearers.

Friends may call two hours prior to service starting at 12:30 p.m.

Designated memorials are to Dora Christian Church Ladies Aid.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen

Delores A. Harris

Delores A. Harris, 80, of Wabash, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 3:40 a.m at Miller's Merry Manor, North, Wabash.  She was born April 19, 1937 in Anderson, Indiana to the late William and Isabel Griese.

Delores married Jack R. Harris on November 14, 1961; he passed away on March 5, 2013.  She worked at HIZ Inc. in Wabash and was a long time member of the North Wesleyan Church.

She is survived by sons, Jack C. (Thania Colgrove) Harris, Warsaw, Cecil W. Harris, North Manchester; daughter Malinda A. (Cris) Mattern, Wabash;  Sisters, Martha Combs, Wabash and Bonnie Bullins, Warsaw; Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Along with her parents and husband, Delores is preceded in death by daughters, Julie Harris, Angela Oaks and daughter-in-law, Jessica Harris; nine brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services are Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with Pastor Joseph Kelley and Pastor Tim Witte officiating.  Burial will follow at Memorial Lawns Cemetery.

Nevin F. Hettmansperger

Nevin F. Hettmansperger, 76, of Wabash, Indiana, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord and his wife, Sandra on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 10:45 p.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, East in Wabash.  He was born in Wabash on August 22, 1941 to the late Benjamin & Naida Hettmansperger.

Nevin was a 1959 graduate of Wabash High School and served in the United States Navy. Nevin married Sandra Jefferson on February 16, 1964; she passed away on December 26, 2008.  He was a member of the Wabash Alliance Church. He retired from PSI Duke Energy and worked part-time at Wal-Mart. Nevin also worked at Wabash Probation supervising community service and he and Sandy were foster parents.

He is survived by his son, Mike Hettmansperger of Roann; two daughters, Kim (David) Pegg and Emily Scaggs, both of Wabash; three grandchildren, Gabrielle (Zach) Wright of Peru, Jacob (Kristen) Pegg of Wabash, and Charyn Hettmansperger of Roann; four great-grandchildren, Hudson and Hartlee Wright, Carter and Reese Pegg; brother, Neil (Paulette)  Hettmansperger, Kokomo; two sisters, Janice Hettmansperger, Wabash and Sue (Jim) Bakehorn, Fort Wayne.

Charles Harrell

Charles E. Harrell, 78, of North Manchester, Indiana, died at 10:26 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at his home.  He was born in Lagro, Indiana to the late Herman and Mary (Miller) Harrell on March 24, 1939.

Charles married Chattie Hale on November 21, 1971; she survives.  He retired from General Tire in Wabash and attended the Wabash Apostolic Church.

Along with his wife, he is survived by son, Danny Joe Harrell, LaFontaine, Indiana; Step-sons, Jimmie (Pauline) Starr, Ray (Stella) Starr and Garry (Tina) Starr all of Wabash; Step-daughters, Linda (Arthur) Hughes, Wabash and Fay Starr, North Manchester, Indiana; Seventeen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Imogene Barton

Imogene P. Barton, 86, of Wabash, Indiana, passed away at 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at her home.  She was born on December 20, 1930 in Lagro Township, Indiana to the late Estel and Jennie (Cross) Kulb.

Imogene married Gene H. Barton on October 2, 1949; he passed away on February 7, 2002. She was self-employed and retired. Imogene was actively involved working with senior citizens and attended the Winchester Senior Center; she even started her own euchre club in 2014.  She attended the Christ United Methodist Church and was a member of the Lincolnville United Methodist Church.  Imogene was a friend to everyone and was always there to help anyone in need and loved Jesus.

Imogene is survived by sons, Dan (Charlene) Barton, Lagro, Indiana, Douglas (Donna) Barton, LaFontaine, Indiana and James (Cheryl) Barton, Lincolnville, Indiana; Nine grandchildren and Twenty-three great-grandchildren.  Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Cory David Shenefield



Cory David Shenefield, 32, of Wabash, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 10:09 p.m. at the Parkview Wabash Hospital.  He was born on January 19, 1985 in Wabash to David (Gloria) Shenefield and Sheryll (Dave) Ulshafer in Wabash.

Cory was a 2003 graduate of Southwood High School. He worked at Clover Blossom Honey in LaFontaine. Cory volunteered at The Access Youth Center in Wabash and was a member of the Beekeepers of Indiana. He had a passion for Ford Mustangs and loved raising queen bees.
Along with his parents, Cory is survived by a brother, Derek (Danielle) Shenefield, LaFontaine, Indiana.  Maternal grandmothers, Betty Smith, Andrews, Indiana and Connie Smith, Lagro, Indiana.  Paternal grandfather, Don Shenefield, LaFontaine, Indiana.  Two nieces, Taylor and Kenzie Shenefield.  He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Wayne Smith and paternal grandmother, Janice Shenefield.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main Street, LaFontaine, IN 46940 with Pastor Brad Wright officiating. Paul Everett Ross

Paul E. Ross, 84, of Wabash, Indiana, died on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 1:50 p.m. at Vernon Health & Rehabilitation, Wabash.  He was born on May 30, 1933 in Wabash to William and Ledema (Bowman) Ross, Sr.

Paul (A-que-nack-que) was a member of the Miami Nation of Indians of Indiana.  Paul worked for 40 years for Laketon Refinery, retiring in 2009.  He was member of the Wabash Eagles Lodge and Wabash Moose Lodge for many years.  He enjoyed remodeling houses, working on cars and being outdoors.

Paul is survived by his wife, Doris Ross. His former wife and mother of his children, Alice Ross of Roann. Three Daughters; Ladonna Sue Snyder and Debra Ross Webb, both of Wabash and Lorna (Tom) Ross Miller, Houston, Texas. Son, Jamie (Margaret) Ross, Houston, Texas. Stepdaughter, Elizabeth Gill, four granddaughters; Allison Snyder of Roann, Paula Ross of Peru, Jennifer Ross and Cayli Miller of Houston Texas. Five grandsons; Dennis John Snyder and Sean Garrett both of Wabash, Jaime Ross, Mathew Ross, Warren Miller of Houston, Texas. Six great-grandchildren, Kristin Snyder and Jayden Simpson of Wabash, Peyton and Auston Garrett of Wabash, Elana and Bailey Ross of Houston, Texas. One Brother, Russell (Joan) Ross, Wabash and one sister, Laura Wilburn. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Diana Kay, three brothers and nine sisters.

Barbara L. Bolen

Barbara Lois Bolen, 77, Wabash, died on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Miller's Merry Manor West in Wabash.  She was born on February 4, 1940 in Blackford County to Issac D. & Emalyne (Maish) Jones.

Barbara was a graduate of Hartford City High School and attended Faith Baptist Church.  She retired as an inspector of United Technologies and as a Certified Nursing Assistant for Vernon Manor.
She is survived by sons; Edward L. (Renata) Bolen, Roann, Indiana and Randall Lee (Christie) Bolen, Lagro, Indiana. Daughter: Rebecca Sue Bolen, Wabash, Indiana. Grandchildren; Erica Lynn (Kurt) Synder, Chaston Lee (Pepper) Smithers, Jason Michael (Tiffani) Bolen, Cassandra Phyllis (Zach) Dutton, Anthony Thomas Bolen, Brady Michael Bolen, Charles Joseph (Laura) Holley and Chad Michael (Amber) Holley and 15 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother.

Private graveside services will be at a later date at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana with Pastor Daniel Boone as the officiant.

Margaret "Peggy" L. Stowe



Margaret "Peggy" E. Stowe, 65, Wabash, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 12:16 a.m. at Parkview Wabash County Hospital.  She was born in Lima, Ohio on August 19, 1952 to James & Margaret (LaFollette) Stowe.

Peggy retired from Merp Administration Services in Wabash and she enjoyed spending time with granddaughters.

She is survived by her daughter; Ericka (Dean) Miller, Wabash. Grandaughters; Santanna, Taylor and Emma Cain all of Wabash.  Brothers; Jim (Cindy) Stowe, Lone Tree, Colorado and Erick (George Ann) Stowe, Englewood, Colorado.  Sister; Terri Stowe, Wabash. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Arlene Palmer

Arlene L. Palmer, 94, of Wabash, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 7:43 p.m. She was born March 11, 1923 in Macy, Indiana to Roy and Edith (Worman) Collins. Arlene married John W. Palmer in May 1946.  He died in 1966.

Arlene graduated from Macy High School and attended Indianapolis City Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1944.  She retired as an RN from Wabash County Hospital.  She was a member of the Wabash Christian Church and was an avid sports fan and very devoted to spending time with her family.

She is survived by sons; Chris (Bobbi) Palmer, Wabash, Dennis (Sue) Palmer, Columbus, Indiana. Daughter; Teresa (Tom) LaFerney, Wabash. Brother; Donald ( Shirley) Collins, Howell, Michigan.  Grandson; Nick Palmer, Wabash. Granddaughters; Lisa K. Turner, Bloomington, Indiana and Kathy (Tim) Holwager, Columbus, Indiana. Sister-in-laws; Norma Collins, Rochester, Indiana and Mary Ann (Tom) Mendenhall, Dover, Indiana. Special family members; Gene and Erma Bunnell, Albuquerque, NM.  Many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  She preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers; Herbert Collins, Norman Collins, Robert Collins and Larry Collins.

Ruby Frances Lane

Ruby Frances Lane, 94, of La Fontaine, died Friday, October 13, 2017 at 3:20 a.m. at Rolling Meadows Health and Rehabilitation Center, La Fontaine.  She was born on October 19, 1922 in Wabash County to James F. and Flosstilla Sevilla (Bowers) Stair.
She graduated from La Fontaine High School in 1940 and was the last living member of her graduating class. Frances married Claude Lane, Jr. on January 27, 1952 and worked for MSD of Wabash and Wagner Grocery Store.  Frances was a member of the United Methodist Church in La Fontaine and was active in the Wesleyan Circle and Riverside Home Economics Club.
She is survived by sons, Rex Alan (Cathy) Lane and Ray Alvin (Carolyn) Lane both of Marion, Indiana; five grandchildren, Stacey (Gannon) Grosh, Muncie, Indiana,  Ryan (Michelle) Lane, Upland, Indiana, Erin (
Jeff) Shafer, South Burlington, Vermont, Dawn (Phil) Mosier, Jonesboro, Indiana and John Foland, Louisville, Kentucky; and Twelve great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, La Fontaine Chapel, 104 S. Donald Ray Webb



Donald Ray Webb, 76, passed away on October 13, 2017 at his home surrounded by family in Wabash, Indiana. He was born on April 2, 1941 to Melvin “Ted” Webb and Clara Marie (Ramey) Webb in Butcher Holler, Kentucky.

He attended Wabash High School and retired from Martin Yale. He enjoyed fishing, playing and singing music, and he was an avid mushroom hunter. He was very proud of the fact that he was a recorded songwriter.

Donald is survived by his wife Debra (Ross) Webb, two daughters; Janie (Troy) O’Dell of Roann, Indiana, Donna Webb of Kokomo, Indiana. A son; Michael Webb of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. A stepdaughter; Paula Ross of Indiana. Four sisters; Loretta Lynn of Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, Peggy (Sonny) Wright of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Brenda (Bill) Gatzimos of Nashville, Tennessee, and Betty (Gene) Hopkins of Hendersonville, Tennessee. One brother; Herman Webb of Van Lear, Kentucky. Step-sister, Lawanda Butcher Pegram, Columbus, Ohio. 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A special niece Kristin Snyder, and a best friend Paul Mollett. He was proceeded in death by his parents and brothers; Melvin Webb Jr. and Jay Lee Webb and by his Step-Father, Tommy Butcher.

John A. Armstrong

John A. "Tony" Armstrong, 67, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 3:00 a.m. in Fort Wayne, Indiana at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home. He was born on June 4, 1950 to John L. and Ivadeane (Williams) Armstrong in Wabash, Indiana.

He was a graduate of Southwood High School, Wabash, Indiana and retired from Fisher Body in Marion, Indiana.

John is survived by sons, John P. (Sarah) Armstrong and Asa E. Armstrong, both of Upland, Indiana; daughter, Lilly A. Armstrong, Valley View, Texas; sister Renee Armstrong, San Diego, California; and two grand children.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

Britt E. Snyder

Britt E. Snyder, 35, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 9:51 p.m. in Marion, Indiana.  He was born in Wabash, Indiana on October 30, 1981 to David and Janet M. (Edmondson) Snyder, Marion, Indiana.
Britt worked at Kohl's in Marion and at his family's business, Snyder Tire, in LaFontaine.
Along with his parents, Britt is survived by his paternal grandmother, Carol Snyder; sister, Carly Snyder, Marion, Indiana; and nephew, Athan Gray; along with several aunts and uncles. 

A memorial service will be on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at LaFontaine Christian Church at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Brad Wright officiating.  Visitation will be prior from 2:00 p.m. until the start of services.

Samuel G. Welsh

Samuel G. Welsh, 60, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  He was born November 6, 1956 to Clifford & Zilla (Gruwell) Welsh.

He worked for his brother Bruce in various jobs and also did farming work.

Samuel is survived by his brother, Bruce Welsh, Warsaw, Indiana and by a niece Tonya (Phil) Douglass, Warsaw, Indiana.  He is preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Milo Welsh.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 with visitation one hour prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 South Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940.  Pastor Bob Conelley will be the officiant.  Burial will follow at Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana.

Charles Leroy Hall

Charles Leroy Hall, 75, passed away Friday morning, September 15, 2017 at his residence with his son holding onto him.  His family was with him all week.

Charles was born on September 1, 1942 in Wabash, Indiana to Ernest and Willetta Hall also of Wabash. His parents preceded him death along with sister Inez and brother-in-law Jim Higdon.

Charles joined the United States Air Force to travel the world and was stationed at Kincheloe Air Force Base in Michigan where he met his wife Delores (Payment) that was his world.  They married on November 23, 1963, the day after the assignation of President Kennedy.  Charles joined the Air Force during the Vietnam War.  After his service, he worked for the Muskegon County Road Commission until his move back to Indiana and was employed as a door greeter at WalMart in Huntington, Indiana.

Chuck was a member of St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church of Wabash, Indiana and was a member of the Knights of Columbus No 02957, Wabash, Indiana, as a 4th degree assembly 241.
Along with his wife he is survived by one son, Duane (Fran) Hall of El Monte, California; five daughters, Lisa (Chris) Nelson, Vermontville, Michigan, Deborah (Mike) Bogue, New Baltimore, Michigan, Margo (Tony) Slagle, Van Buren, Indiana, Roxanne (Ed) Stange, Turner Michigan, Kathy (Bob) Bryant of Muskegon, Michigan; 14 grandchildren, 1 step grandson, 8 great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. He is survived by sisters, Sue Worden, Peru, Indiana, Connie McLeod, South Carolina; Bonnie Hall, New York and Special buddy Bill (Hazel) Kuczmera of Muskegon, Michigan.

Calling hour will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church, 207 North Cass Street, Wabash, Indiana 46992 with burial following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion, Indiana. Father Sextus Don will be the officiant.

Robert "Bob" Simpson

Robert "Bob" Simpson, passed away at his Wabash home on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 6:14 a.m.  He was 88 years old.  Robert was born in Miami County, Indiana to Clearence & Sara (Coiner) Simpson.

Robert was a World War II United States Army Veteran.  He retired from Gen Corp and was a member of the Masonic Lodge Hannah #61, Wabash Eagles, Wabash Moose Lodge and Scottish Rite Shrine, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He is survived by life companion, Judith K. Penisten; sons, James (Janette) Simpson, Alabama and Billy Simpson, Wabash, Indiana; daughter, Mrs. Gary (Diana) Ebbinghouse, Bluffton, Indiana; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Rex G. Pegg

Rex G. Pegg, 68, passed away at 7:00 a.m. in his Wabash home on Sunday, September 10, 2017.  He was born on September 11, 1948 in Winchester, Indiana to Jay C. & Dorothy L. (Hodson) Pegg.

Rex married Karen S. (Shewman) Pegg on January 21, 1967.  He was a retired farmer and a member of Grace Fellowship Church, Wabash, Indiana.

Along with his wife, Karen, Rex is survived by children, David (Kim) Pegg, Jennifer Cole, Doug (Genea) Pegg and Eric (Shelly) Pegg all of Wabash, Indiana; grandchildren, Abbie (Zach) Wright, Peru, Indiana,  Andy (Tanarea) Pegg, Jake (Kristen) Pegg, Derek Pegg, Alex Pegg and Emily Cole all of Wabash and Tricia Pegg of Kokomo, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Hartlee Wright, Peru, Indiana, Colt Pegg, Rex Pegg, Carter Pegg, Reese Pegg, Iley Pegg all of Wabash, Lailah Young of Kokomo, Indiana and he has one great-grandchild on the way; siblings, Linda (Baxter) Burch, Sarasota, Florida, Dana (Pam) Pegg, Marion, Indiana and Lisa (David) Kaufman, Muncie, Indiana. Lucinda L. Beall

Lucinda Beall passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at her home at the age of 71.

Lucinda is survived by her husband Michael, her brother David Ash (Jody), and Nila Shaw, her sister-in-law. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Lucinda was born on November 8, 1945 in Marion, Indiana to Harold and Lucille Ash. She graduated from Marion High School in 1963. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Marion College (IWU) and a master’s degree from Ball State University. Lucinda began teaching at Riverview Elementary School in Marion, where she remained for 30 years serving kindergarten and first grade students and their families. She was a compassionate and dedicated educator.

Lucinda was an accomplished quilter and participated in several quilting groups over the years.  In addition, she was a talented artist who enjoyed making jewelry and painting. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling, antiquing and lovingly restoring their 19-century farm house. She was a member of The Quilters Hall of Fame, PEO, Monday Conversation Club and The Hostess House. She actively attended Hanfield United Methodist Church.

The family would like to pay special thanks to Dr. Mahendran and her team at the Marion Progressive Cancer Care Clinic, the Family Life Care Hospice, and the compassionate caregivers, Chris Ailes, Nikki Cope, Kim Durflinger and Patricia Harris.

A celebration of Lucinda’s life will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017, from 1:00 until 4:00 pm at the Hostess House, 723 W. 4th Street, Marion, IN. LeRoy "Bud" G. Fierstos

LeRoy "Bud" G. Fierstos, 74, of North Manchester, Indiana, passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at his residence.  He was born in Wabash, Indiana on June 28, 1943 to LeRoy G. and Miriam (Weitzel) Fierstos, Sr.

Bud was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Wabash, Indiana. He was a 1961 graduate from Wabash High School and afterwards served in the United States Air Force.  He worked for over thirty years at Container Corporation, Wabash, Indiana before retiring.

He is survived by his mother, Miriam; sons, Michael David Fierstos, and Richard Fierstos, both of Redmond, Oregon; brothers, Daniel (Penny) Fierstos, North Manchester, Indiana and Donald (Tawana) Fierstos, Auburn, Pennsylvania; sisters, Beverlee (David) Whitaker, Wabash, Indiana, Melissa (Robert)
 Love, Abbeville, South Carolina and Melinda Fierstos, Marion, Indiana and six grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his father.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the St. Bernard Catholic Church, 207 North Cass Street, Wabash, Indiana, with Father Sextus Don officiating the service. Burial at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana will be at a later date.

David W. Shields

David W. Shields, 62, of Ossian, Indiana, died at 7:58 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center, LaFontaine, Indiana.  He was born September 4, 1954 in Linton, Indiana to Phillip and Dorothy (Stanton) Shields.  He married Anna Perry on July 4, 2003.

David was a United States Army veteran. He also worked as a truck driver and enjoyed collecting coins.

Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters; two sisters, Mae Holderman, Marion, Indiana and Sue Eakright, LaFontaine, Indiana. He is preceded in death by one brother.

Frank F. Finnegan, Jr., 69, of Wabash, Indiana died at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at his residence.  He was a lifetime resident of Wabash and was born December 16, 1947 to Frank F. & Jacquelyn (Lendman) Finnegan Sr.

Frank was a veteran of the United States Army and he retired from General Motors in Marion, Indiana.

He is survived by one son, Frank F. Finnegan, III, Wabash; three daughters, Shea (Dorothy Oliver) Finnegan, of Spencer, Indiana; Beth Finnegan, North Manchester, Indiana; Mrs. (Adrian) Flora Sanchez, Logansport, Indiana; Four grandchildren, Brooke Jimenez, Hunter Finnegan, Isaac Sanchez, and Alaina Sanchez; one brother, Daniel Finnegan, Marion, Indiana; one sister, Juanita Finnegan, Huntsville, Alabama.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

Louise E. Curtis, 80, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 11:54 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at her residence.  She was born January 8, 1937 to Clarence and Ester (Buzzard) Cecil in Wabash, Indiana.

Louise married John R. Curtis on March 11, 1955.  He died on April 28, 1993.  She retired from Wabash Magnetics after 38 years of employment.    

She is survived by one daughter, Pamela Curtis, Wabash, Indiana; two sons, Tom (Sierra) Curtis and Tony (Paulette) Curtis both of Wabash, Indiana; grandchildren, Tom (Jessica) Curtis, Jr. and Nakeia Hartley and two sisters. She is preceded in death by one sister.

Jessica A. Mendoza, 39, of Somerset, Indiana passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She was born on September 15, 1977 in Wabash County to Ramiro (Sheila) Mendoza of Elkhart, Indiana and Mrs. Connie (Christman) Crabtree (Steve) of Somerset, Indiana. Along with her parents, she is survived by Doug Adams, her closest confidant, counselor and father figure; he was also her spiritual leader and best friend.

Jessica was a 1995 graduate of Frankfort High School.

She is survived by sons, Griffin Harris and Hudson Harris, both of Sharpsville, Indiana, Elijah Mendoza and Oliver Mendoza both of Elkhart, Indiana, and Ryan Mendoza of Somerset, Indiana; paternal grandparents, Robert Mendoza of Marion and Mrs. Bill (Josie) Ridenour of Wabash; maternal grandmother, Shirley Christman of Wabash; Sister Lyndsay Drabenstot of Huntington, Indiana; Two nephews, Brandt Crabtree, Somerset, Indiana & Fletcher Drabenstot, Huntington, Indiana; Three nieces Shantel Crabtree, Somerset, Indiana, Alaina Mendoza, Elkhart, Indiana and Isabella Sefton, Huntington, Indiana. Dorothy "Joann" Brane

Dorothy "Joann" Brane, 90, of LaFontaine, Indiana, died at 4:15 a.m. on August 7, 2017 at Rolling Meadows Health and Rehabilitation Center, LaFontaine, Indiana.  She was born on March 6, 1927 in Marion, Indiana to Irvin & Josephine (Zebert) Smithley.

She married Joseph R. Scott in 1947 and was married until his death in 1982. She then married Paul Brane in 1984.  She worked as a beautician and was a member of the Healing Heart Church of God in Marion, Indiana.

She is survived by her husband; Two sons; Ronald (Kathy) Scott of Logansport, Indiana and John (Karen) Scott of Kokomo, Indiana.  Four grandchildren; Troy Scott, Idaville, Indiana; Lisa Hicks, Fort Wayne, Indiana; Leann Snodgrass, Plainfield, Indiana and Sarah Patton, Kokomo, Indiana; Two sisters; Violet Mullin and Phyllis Harphem both of Marion, Indiana and Eleven great-grandchildren.

Phyllis "Elaine" Duhamell

Phyllis “Elaine” Francis Duhamell of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday July 4, 2017 at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, Indiana. She was 83 years old. 
She was born in Marion, Indiana on October 4, 1933 to Paul Haynes & Evelyn (Brown) Haynes.  Elaine graduated in 1951 from Wabash High School.  She married Leonel “Pete” Duhamell on February 20, 1952; he survives. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Randy (Cathy) Duhamell, Lagro, Indiana; Keith (Patti) Duhamell, Wabash, Indiana; and Jeff (Rhonda) Duhamell, Wabash, Indiana. Two daughters, Nancy (Gary) Devore, Wabash, Indiana and Linda (Kevin) Bruss, Warsaw, Indiana; Twelve grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by daughter, Debra Diane Duhamell, in 1953; great grandchild, Aden Shoue and brother, Jerry Haynes.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Ave., Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Reverend Sue Babovec officiating. Entombment will be at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana.

Delbert Martin




Delbert Leroy Martin of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 3:34 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Parkview Regional Medical Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was 85 years old.  

He was born July 23, 1931 in Wabash, Indiana to Dalice and Leona (Nayrocker) Martin.  Delbert attended Wabash High School.  He married Margaret L. Williams in 1953.  She died September 5, 1994.  Delbert worked for the Dana Corporation in Marion, Indiana for 40 years, retiring January 1994.  He was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 15, Wabash, Indiana.  He was also a member of the Wabash Christian Church and the Missionary Alliance Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Debra Haecker of Wabash, Indiana; two grandchildren, Joe (Sara) Haecker, Roann, Indiana and Mark Haecker of Wabash, Indiana; great grandchildren, Whitney, Caleb, Kenzie, Kiptin, & Kedryk; sisters, Barbara (Joe) Bakehorn, Wabash, Indiana, and Anna (John) Fritz, Peru, Indiana.  He is preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Martin, and a baby sister.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Ave., Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Pastor Todd Render officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana. Preferred memorials are directed to a scholarship fund for his two little men, Kiptin and Kedryk in care of the funeral home.

Patricia Ann (Carroll) Carter


It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Ann (Carroll) Carter announces her passing after a brief illness, on June 22, 2017 at the age of 71.  

She was born February 18, 1946 in Martin, Kentucky to Earl Carroll (deceased) and Edna B. Stumbo Carroll (deceased).  She lived in Ashland City, Tennessee for the past 10 years and also resided in Glasgow, Kentucky.  She worked at the Wabash Inn for many years and was retired when she passed away.  She loved to spend time with her friends and her family.

She is survived by her 8 children, James B. (Kimberly) Hensley of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Donnie J. (Katie) Hensley of Wabash, Tonya R. (Gary) Friend House of Pleasant View, Tennessee, John E. (Alisha) Carter also of Glasgow.  She is also survived by two sisters, Sandy A. (Robert) Allen Christman of Wabash, Janet F. (Bill) Hartley of Wabash and 3 brothers who were deceased (Gary, Fred and Tom).  She had 14 grandchildren. 

At the request of our mother, a graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Falls Cemetery in Wabash with Pastor Danny Boone officiating.  The public is welcome to attend.

Bertie J. Melvin


Bertie J. Melvin, 89, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 5:12 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Millers Merry Manor West in Wabash, Indiana. She was born to the late H. Armstrong and Lula (Pennington) Rowland on February 9, 1928 in Morgan County, Kentucky.

Bertie was a 1969 graduate of Johnson County High School; then received her Certified Nursing Assistant degree at the State of Indiana. She married Andrew Melvin on November 8, 1944 in Johnson County, Kentucky at the Clerk’s Office, he passed away in 1994. Bertie was a Certified Nurses Assistant for 15 years at Miller’s Merry Manor East, Wabash, Indiana. She is a member of Grand Street Baptist Church in Wabash, Indiana.

She is survived by sons, Andy (Janice) Melvin of Lafayette, Indiana and Jess Melvin of Wabash, Indiana; daughters, Mrs. Florence (Robert) Music of Wabash, Indiana, Mrs. Sara (Andrew) Todd of Highland Ranch, Colorado, and Mrs. Jean (Kevin) Smith in Cheyanne, Wyoming; sister, Billie Jean Azelton of Flint, Michigan and; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia; grandson, Lee Melvin; and 3 brothers and 6 sisters.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana, with John Denniston officiating. Burial will be at Falls Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana

Thomas (Tom) H. Pearce

Thomas (Tom) H. Pearce is now at peace with the Lord. Tom was born July 14, 1926, to Thomas B. and Alpha Pearce, in Covington, Kentucky. He died June 11, 2017 in LaFontaine, Indiana. He was 90 years old.
During World War II, Tom was a member of the 511th Signal Company, Airborne Division and qualified as a parachutist and rifleman. He also received a Certificate of Proficiency in Automated Telephone Systems Skilled Maintenance. After an honorable discharge, Tom returned to Kentucky and graduated from Hazel Green High School, class of 1948.
Tom retired from the Fisher Body Plant in Marion, Indiana after 34 years.
Tom married Dorothy A. Schawe in Kentucky, on July 16, 1949. Dorothy died July 4, 1995. Together they had six children, of whom one is deceased, JoAnn Sewell.
Surviving children are Barbara Ball and her husband Ernie, John Pearce and his wife, Vickie, Colleen Tracy and her husband Kerry, Teresa Tracy and her husband Danny and Randy Pearce and his wife Jerri. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Tom married Velma Petro, April 8, 2002. She survives. With this marriage, Tom became a step-father to Joe Petro and his wife Cheryl, John Petro and his wife Sharon and Pam Whitener and her husband Jerry. Velma also has 7 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Tom was a loving father and grandfather and set an example of profound integrity, honesty, and love of his country during his entire lifetime.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017 at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940, with Pastor David Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery in LaFontaine, Indiana.

Margaret L. Benson-Burnworth

Margaret L. Benson-Burnworth, 85, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 9:13 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Wellbrooke of Wabash in Wabash, Indiana. She was born on March 13, 1932 in Bedford, Kentucky to the late Dallas and Mary (Ross) Brown.

Margaret married Vern J. Benson on March 19, 1949, he passed away on May 30, 2003 ; then she married Kenneth H. Burnworth, he passed away on February 11, 2011. Margaret retired from Clark's Grocery Store and worked for Gackenheimer's Drug Store for many years. She was a member of College Corner Brethren Church in Wabash, Indiana. She enjoyed gardening, lunches with her friends, and most of all her family.

She is survived by a son, Ken Benson (Chris) of Wabash, Indiana; three daughters, Mrs. Don (Carol) Sweet of Converse, Indiana, Janie Hayslett of Wabash, Indiana, and Mrs. Paul (Mary) Cornett of Wabash, Indiana; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an aunt, Ruby Martin, son in law, Clyde Hayslett and grandson, Tanner Hayslett, along with her parents and husbands.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Pastor Brad Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Lawns Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.

Viola (Monroe) Gilbert

Viola (Monroe) Gilbert, 65, of Wabash, Indiana passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 at her home. She was born on September 11, 1951 in Disney, Kentucky to the late Roy and Ludie (Madden) Monroe.

Viola was a 1971 graduate of Wabash High School. She married Kirkwood Alton Gilbert on March 9, 1995, he survives. She was a homemaker to her family. She was a member of Christian Heritage Church in Wabash, Indiana. Viola loved music and her family, especially her grandchildren.

Along with her husband, Kirkwood; she is survived by daughters, Christina Taylor of Wabash, Indiana, Mrs. Latisha (Matt) Miller of Urbana, Indiana, and Alicia Hensley of Stigler, Oklahoma; step daughter, Mrs. Jennifer (John) Long of Edinburgh, Indiana; step sons, Joshua Gilbert (Diane) of Michigan and Matthew Gilbert (Sara) of North Manchester, Indiana; sisters, Josephine (Hans) Harms of Wabash, Indiana, Ruth (Bruce) Whiteneck of Warsaw, Indiana, Bernice Bellew of Florida, Louise Lawshe of Florida, Barb (Tim) Prater of Wabash, Indiana, Clarissa (Charlie) Poe of Washington; brothers, Thomas Monroe of Wabash, Indiana, Hershel (Ilene) Monroe of Andrews, Indiana, Don (Betty) Monroe of Wabash, Indiana, Roy Monroe Jr. of North Manchester, Indiana, Orville (Liz) Monroe of Wabash, Indiana, Jerry (Sue) Monroe of Leesburg, Indiana, and Larry (Connie) Monroe of Wabash, Indiana; 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Alene Monroe.

Maurice O. Terry

Maurice O. Terry, 84, of LaFontaine, Indiana passed away at his lake home on Monday, April 24, 2017. He was born to the late Thomas Harrison "Harry" and Martha (Payne) Terry on December 1, 1932 in Moundville, Alabama.

He was a Hale Community High School graduate and he received his bachelor degree at University of Alabama, where he remained an avid fan. Maurice married Bonnie Rigney on June 16, 1962, she survives. He served his country in the United States Army. Maurice retired as a Veteran Administrator for the Marion Veterans Hospital in Marion, Indiana. Maurice was a member of LaFontaine United Methodist Church in LaFontaine, Indiana. He was also a member of American Legion Post 49 in Van Buren, Indiana, NARFE, Arbor Trace Golf Club in Marion, Indiana, and Meals on Wheels of Wabash County.

Maurice enjoyed the Veterans Group that met once a month in LaFontaine, fishing, golfing, spending time at the lake, watching and feeding his birds, and his love for his cat, Punkin.

Along with his wife, Bonnie; he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Martha (Jesse) Godwin of Pineapple, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Shawn O. Terry, brothers and sisters, Olla Bell Terry, Estelle Terry, Olen Terry, Odelle Lakeman, Frances Gafford, Thomas Terry, Lester Terry, and J.D. Terry.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017 at LaFontaine United Methodist Church, 2 W. Kendall Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940, with Pastor Crystal Jacobson and Pastor Larry Ray officiating. Burial will follow in the LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery in LaFontaine, Indiana 46940.

Sandra Sue Craft

Sandra Sue Craft, 76, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2017 at her home. She was born on to the late Harold and Dorothy (Calfee) Smith on January 3, 1941 in Wabash, Indiana.

She was a Noble High School graduate. Sandy married James Richard Craft on June 29, 1968, he passed away on June 27, 2013. Sandy worked at Markhon of Wabash and retired from Wells Fargo of Wabash. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Wabash, Indiana, where she held several committees at her church. She was dedicated to the March of Dimes Community. Sandy enjoyed being with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and their activities.

She is survived by son, Brent Craft (Paula) of Wabash, Indiana and daughter, Wendy Short (Ron Jones) of Wabash, Indiana; grandchildren, Jarrett Craft, Jaron Craft, Kaelyn Short, Jessica Beane, and Jordon Beane; four great grandchildren, Briliegh Cook, Braya Cook, Adakin Beane, and Carter Jones; first cousin, Joe Evans (Julie) of Wabash, Indiana and many other cousins survive.

Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church, 173 Hale Drive, Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Pastor Jeremy Yeadon officiating. Burial will follow in the Falls Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana. Harold D. Warford, 78, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 6:18 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born to the late on October 27, 1938 in Huntington, Indiana.
Harold married Maxine Ricks on January 31, 1987, she survives. He retired from Maco Corp of Huntington, Indiana. Harold was a member of Church of Christ at Treaty
Along with his wife, Maxine; he is survived by daughters, Debbie Pohler and Deann Patrick both of Huntington, Indiana; step son, Travis Ricks of Lillington, North Carolina; brothers, Bev Warford of Wabash, Indiana and Carl Warford of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Jessie Smart of Bippus, Indiana; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Danny Warford.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Church of Christ at Treaty, 6793 S. 50 E. Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Minister Ryan Weaver officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
