Myron L. Heck

Myron L. Heck, 88, of rural Wabash, Indiana passed away at 10:25 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Bickford Senior Living in Wabash, Indiana. He was born to the late George and Ada (Black) Heck on September 12, 1928 in Grant County, Indiana.

Myron was a 1946 graduate from LaFontaine High School. He married Laura “Rosemary” Smithley on November 5, 1950, she passed away on December 26, 2009. Myron was a member of Treaty Church of Christ in Treaty, Indiana. He retired after 40 years from General Cable-Anaconda of Marion, Indiana.

Myron is survived by a son, Roger Heck (Rita Hosier) of Denver, Indiana; daughters, Connie (Daniel) George and Cathy (Vern) Staggs both of LaFontaine, Indiana; five grandchildren, Chad Allen Heck of Indianapolis, Indiana, Trent J. Heck (Lindsay) of North Manchester, Indiana, Charley (Angela) Staggs of Marion, Indiana, Michelle Hart (Jonathan) of Marion, Indiana, and Amy (Shannon) Dillon of Wabash, Indiana; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Heck, Cody Dillon, Austin Staggs, Aidan Staggs, Allie Staggs, Jaydan Simmons, Parker Heck, and Carter Hart. He was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Heck.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940. Burial will follow at LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery in LaFontaine, Indiana. Preferred memorials are direct to charity of Donor’s Choice.

Martha E. Purdy

Martha E. Purdy, 96, a lifetime resident of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Bickford of Wabash. She was born to the late Irvin L. and Florence (Retting) Hutchens on September 17, 1920 in Wabash County, Indiana.

She was a graduate of Chippewa High School. Martha married Homer E. Purdy on May 28, 1954, he passed away on March 17, 1989. She retired from the Curb-A-Teria Restaurant of Wabash, Indiana. Martha was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wabash, Indiana. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Wabash, Indiana. She was a Cubs and IU fan, she enjoyed taking care of her home and yard, and she loved her son and daughter-in-law.

A son survives her, Ken Purdy (Karen) of Wabash, Indiana. She was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold R. Hutchens.

A private family service will be held at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Pastor John Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Falls Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana. Preferred memorials are directed to First United Methodist Church, 110 N. Cass Street, Wabash, Indiana 46992.

Elbert E. Fingerle

Elbert E. Fingerle, 91, formerly of Wabash, Indiana died Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Aperion Care in Kokomo, Indiana. He was born to the late Henry and Ethel Mable (Patrick) Fingerle on December 9, 1925 in North Manchester, Indiana.

He graduated from Wabash High School. He played Semi Pro Football for Wabash Express. Elbert married Mary Lucille Hall in 1951, she passed away on July 4, 2000. He retired from Dana Corp in Marion, Indiana. Elbert served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Wabash, Indiana. He was also a member of American Legion Post 15 in Wabash, Indiana.

Elbert is survived by a sister, Evelyn Miller of North Manchester, Indiana; grandchildren, Melissa Alexander Fritz of Weatherford, Texas, Cynthia Alexander Doenges of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Mrs. Michele (Alan) Zintsmaster of Roann, Indiana, and Richard Alexander of Kokomo, Indiana; 15 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee Alexander, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2017 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Father Richard Lightsey officiating. Entombment will follow at Memorial Lawns Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.

Eloise Loreen Unger

Eloise Loreen Unger, 90, a lifetime resident of Wabash County, Indiana passed away at 6:57 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Wellbrooke of Wabash. She was born to the late Earl and Ethel (Clark) Shanafelt on August 23, 1926 in Wabash County, Indiana.

She was a graduate of Linlawn High School in 1945, then attended International Business College. Eloise married Walter H. Unger on December 13, 1947 in Richvalley, Indiana, he passed away on August 10, 2013. She worked for Wallace Furniture Co. in Peru, Indiana at the age of 14, at the age of 18 for Hosiery Manufacturing Co and Sunbeam Biscuit Co. both of Fort Wayne, from 1946 until 1965 at General Telephone in Wabash as a receptionist, from 1965 until 1969 as a teacher’s aide for W.C. Mills School, and from 1969 until 1978 in Health Occupations for Friendly Nursing Home-Vernon Manor for Children, Merriweather Convalescent Center, and Wabash Healthcare Centre. She was a Girl Scout Brownie Troop Leader for 8 years.

She is survived by sons, Dennis Unger (Alicia) of North Manchester, Indiana and Richard Unger (Robin) of Wabash, Indiana; grandchildren, Patrick Unger (Kristi) of Wabash, Indiana, Joseph Unger of Iowa, Daniel Unger (Crystal) of Wabash, Indiana, and Donald "D.J." Unger (Ashley) of LaFontaine, Indiana; and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, David and brothers, Cecil, Traverse, and Leo Shanafelt.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940, with Pastor David Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Marion, Indiana. Preferred memorials are directed to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, 5910 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46814.

Paul J. Bowlby

Paul J. Bowlby, 93, a lifetime resident of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 3:42 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Millers Merry Manor East in Wabash, Indiana. He was born to the late Samuel G. and Maud (Cunningham) Bowlby on April 11, 1923 in Wabash, Indiana.

Paul was a 1942 graduate of Wabash High School, then attend IU and graduated from Kansas City University with a Master’s Degree. He served his country in the United State Army Air Corp. Paul was a Math Teacher, he retired in 1986.

Sisters survive Paul, Joyce (Lee) Rish of Wabash, Indiana and Cordelia (Ray) Swanson of Garden Grove, California. He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Paul’s wishes were for no services. Preferred memorials are directed to charity of donor’s choice. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana at a later date.

Genna M. Garcia-Hiatt

Genna M. Garcia-Hiatt, 35, of Wabash, Indiana passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017. She was born to Danny Wilcox of Wabash, Indiana and Billie Jo (Watson) Wilcox of Wabash, Indiana.

Genna was a Wabash High School graduate of 2000. She married Robert Hiatt on November 14, 2013, he survives. She was a homemaker to her family.

Along with her parents and husband Genna is survived by a son, Jacub Garcia; daughters, Jasmin Garcia, and Audrey Hiatt; step son, Austin Hiatt all of Wabash, Indiana; maternal grandparents, Peggy Fraley of Wabash, Indiana; brother, Josie Wilcox of Wabash, Indiana; sister, Keisha Wilcox of Wabash, Indiana.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Pastor Tim Prater officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana. Preferred memorials are directed to her children.

Jewell Butcher

Jewell Butcher, 86, of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 6:17 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center in LaFontaine, Indiana. She was born to the late Virgil and Annabelle (McDaniel) Anderson on July 10, 1930 in Maryville, Tennessee.

Jewell married Nevert Butcher in 1967, he passed away in February of 1986. She worked for United Tech in Wabash, Indiana. Jewell was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Wabash, Indiana.

Jewell is survived by sons, Steve Burger (Tina) of Wabash, Indiana, John Butcher (Jennifer) of Bunker Hill, Indiana, and Tim Butcher (Sabrina) of Gas City, Indiana; daughters, Linda Burger of Georgia, Janie Low of Huntington, Indiana, Mrs. Jeanie (Steven) Davis of Wabash, Indiana, Donna Harmon of Wabash, Indiana, Mrs. Judy (William) Cavins of Wabash, Indiana, Mrs. Michelle (Tommy) George of Wabash, Indiana, and Mrs. Billie Jo (Tim) Sutherland of Marion, Indiana; sister, June Wilson of Tennessee; 22 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a sister.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992, with Pastor Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Grant Memorial Park in Marion, Indiana. Preferred memorials are directed to Alzheimer’s Association.
