Doyt E. Grossman

Doyt E. Grossman, 94, of LaFontaine, passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Rolling Meadows Health and Rehabilitation.  He was born on January 19, 1926 in LaFontaine, to the late Elmer and Florence (Mann) Grossman.

Doyt was a 1944 graduate of LaFontaine High School.  He married Phyllis R. Davis on August 19, 1955; she passed away on July 23, 2011.  Doyt served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded the purple heart.  Doyt was a lifetime farmer in LaFontaine and he was a member of the Lincolnville United Methodist Church.  

Doyt is survived by four sons, Jerry Grossman, of Roanoke, Gerry Grossman, of LaFontaine, Doyt Grossman Jr., of Muncie, and Tom Grossman, of Portland, Tennessee; daughter, Joni Beeler, of Fort Wayne; one sister, Donabelle Moore, of Lafayette; eight grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2020 at LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the Rolling Meadows Hospice Program.

Roger D. Fife

Roger D. Fife, 76, of Wabash, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.  He was born to the late J.T. and Clara (Woodall) Fife on February 9, 1944, in Pikeville, Kentucky.

Roger married Peggy J. Blair on Nov. 27, 1963; she passed away on November 19, 2000. Roger retired from Ford Meter Box after 37 years of service.  He was a member of Bachelor Creek Church of Christ, Wabash.  

Roger is survived by one son, Chris (Brandi) Fife, of Huntington, Indiana; one daughter Kelli Stamper, of Kokomo; two brothers, J.T. Fife and Paul Fife, both of Pikeville, Kentucky; three sisters, Francis Jean, Vivian and Delores, all of Kentucky; three grandchildren, Brandy Garrard, Sydney Fife and Dane Fife; three great-grandchildren, Layne, Jordan and Cannon; special friend, Shirley McClain, of Wabash and his best friend and nephew, Keith Lynn, of Wabash.  He is preceded in death by two brothers.  

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Memorial Lawns Cemetery in Wabash.  Pastor Ralph Johnson will be the officiant.

Kenneth W. Brown

Kenneth Wayland Brown, 72, of North Manchester, formerly of LaFontaine, passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Bethlehem Woods Retirement Community in Fort Wayne.  He was born on December 29, 1947 in Greeneville, Tennessee to the late Joe and Lula (Bell) Wooten.  

Ken married Laura Key on May 9, 1996.  Ken retired from the United States Navy after 19 1/2 years of service.  He also served four years in the United State Marine Corp.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW and of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).  

Ken liked sports, playing cards, casinos, going for drives and eating out.  He also enjoyed bingo, his cats, movies and getting together with his friends.  

Ken is survived by his wife, Laura, of North Manchester; son, Jason Brown, of Marion; stepson, Ray Porter, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; stepdaughter, Sara Porter, of North Manchester; brother, David (Christina) Brown, of Moseim, Tennessee; sisters, Norma (John) Leslie, of Lawrence, Michigan, Brenda (Albrey) Corbin, and Mary Stout, both of Cross City, Florida; and three step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one brother, Gary Brown and one sister, Diana Hicks.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2020 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Marion with Pastor Robb Rensberger officiating.

Preferred memorials are to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Joby Kaufman

Joby Kunkler Kaufman, 82, of Andrews, passed away at 7:56 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at her residence.  Joby was born in Hollywood, California, on November 28, 1937, to the late Robert and Judy Kunkler.  She was raised in Chrystal Lake, Illinois.  Joby later gained a step-father, Eddie O'Neil. 

Joby attended Hanover and Huntington College.  She met Gene Robert Kaufman at Hanover College in Madison, Indiana and they wed, on the campus, on March 25, 1959.

Along with Gene's parents and family, together they built Etna Acres Golf Course.  Joby was Co-owner of Etna Acres.  She loved picking the driving range and sitting in the sun to watch the birds.  She sought to make everyone feel welcome at Etna Acres.  Joby was well known for her cheeseburgers, but you had to promise not to tell anyone.  

Joby was a member of Alpha Delta Pi and Daughters of the American Revolution.  She was also a fifty year member of the Order of Eastern Star in Wabash.  Joby also served as a Girl Scout leader.  

Joby and Gene raised two daughters at the course; JoDee (Gary) Dale, of Andrews and Jeannie (Bob) Stienke, of Wabash; grandchildren Devin (Kelli) Dale, of Wabash, Dayna Dale, of Andrews, Julia (Andrew) Wegeng, of Indianapolis and Rylan Porter, of Indianapolis.  

Etna Acres has been the location for numerous golf fundraisers through the years.  In lieu of flowers, if you have participated in one of those outings, please consider a donation to one of the charities.  A couple that she felt most passionate about included the Shriners Hospital and Folds of Honor. 

Per Joby's request, there will be a private family service held at Etna Acres Golf Course.

Angela Bowling

Angela M. Bowling, 40, passed away at 1:57 a.m., on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at her home.  She was born on July 5, 1979, in Wabash, to the late Clayton Bowling and Phyllis (Waite) Jivery. 

She was a 1997 graduate of Southwood High School.  

Angela is survived by her mother, Phyllis (Terry) Jivery, of LaFontaine; three children, Tiffany N. Key, of Kokomo, Austin S. Key and Sadie M. Waite, both of LaFontaine; brothers, Jeremy (Leia) Waite, of LaFontaine and Chuck (Laura) Bowling, of Connecticut; grandmother, Eileen Waite, of Wabash; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Greg Leins, of Kendallville.

She loved her children, family, animals, music, movies, coloring and her close friends.  Angela was an amazing person that touched so many lives during her short time here.  She will be missed greatly.  

Private family services will be held and a public memorial service will possibly be held at a later date.

Anna O. Parkkali

Anna Parkkali, 96, of Wabash, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2020. She was born on February 16, 1924, in Pashchkovo, Russia, to the late Mikail Orekhov and Feodosia Yakovlevna Grigorieva.  
Anna married Rudolph Parkkali in 1968; he passed away in 1980.  Anna worked as a draftsman at Avondale in New Orleans, Louisiana.  She was a member of St. Basil Greek Church in New Orleans.  
Anna was an avid mushroom hunter and loved to fish and gather berries.  She loved and was very knowledgeable of the outdoors; a skill she acquired growing up in her village in Russia.  Anna stated she had found paradise when she arrived in America.  
Anna is survived by daughter-in-law, Nancy Wasylenko, of Wabash; three granddaughters, Victoria (Richard Panariello) Miller and Jennie (Eric) Terrell, both of Wabash and Tanya (Todd) Latta, of Huntington; seven great-grandchildren, Stephanie Youngman, Elaina Terrell, Heather Miller, Alix Latta, Jacob Terrell, Bailey Latta, and Trevor Herron and six great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one son, Serge Wasylenko; two brothers and two sisters.  
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a private graveside service for family will be held at Friends Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.

Bonnie A. Lawson

Bonnie A. Lawson, 79, of LaFontaine, passed away at 4:05 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2020 at Marion General Hospital.  She was born in Marion, Indiana, on June 16, 1940, to the late Raymond and Anna C. (Deal) Fox. 

Bonnie worked at Wagners in Wabash. 

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Angela (Todd) Dale, of LaFontaine; one son, Tim Kern, of Anderson; one brother, Tom Fox, of Marion; one sister, Jerry (Jay) Walters, of Florida; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by granddaughter, Aubrey Dale; grandson, Austin James Dale and by one brother, Robert Fox.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, set by the state, a private graveside service for family will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Sweetser, Indiana.  A memorial service will be held at later date.
